Our Mission

NY Cat Warriors is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) animal rescue dedicated to helping homeless cats across New York City who are both healthy as well as medically vulnerable. We respond to community requests for assistance by providing emergency coordination with trappers, foster-based care, and specialized veterinary treatment for those cats affected by illness, injury, and trauma. We are partners in the Animal Care Center's New Hope program . Through partnerships with neighborhood residents, foster caregivers, and veterinary providers, we deliver compassionate, responsible care while supporting pet guardians facing hardship. By prioritizing high-need cases and stewarding resources transparently, we work to reduce suffering, prevent unnecessary surrender, and promote safe, permanent homes for vulnerable cats in our community.

Adoption Policy

We aim to place each cat in a loving, lifelong home while keeping the process welcoming and supportive. After an initial inquiry (usually through Petfinder), we ask adopters to complete an application so we can learn about their home, experience with cats, and what they’re looking for in a companion. This helps us make the best possible match. We review applications and follow up by phone or video to answer questions and discuss the cat’s personality, transition period, and care needs. Approved adopters meet the cat (in person or virtually), and we conduct a brief home check to ensure basic safety measures are in place. All adopters sign an agreement outlining proper care and our return policy. Adoption fees help cover veterinary care. We provide vet records, transition advice, and post-adoption support, with check-ins at 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months. If at any time an adopter can no longer keep their cat, the cat must be returned to us. FeLV and Special-Needs Adoption Policy NY Cat Warriors rescues and places cats with a wide range of medical and special needs, including those living with FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus). When adopting a cat with FeLV or another chronic condition: - The cat’s medical status is disclosed in writing prior to adoption - Adopters are informed of the condition and expected care requirements - FeLV-positive cats must be kept indoors - FeLV-positive cats must be kept separated from healthy FeLV-negative cats unless otherwise advised by a veterinarian We adopt FeLV-positive cats into loving homes prepared to provide appropriate care and a safe environment. Our team remains available to provide guidance and support after adoption. Our mission is to give vulnerable cats the opportunity to live safely, comfortably, and with dignity.
