Operated as a division of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, we are a multi-faceted agency dedicated to providing the citizens of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County with animal care services. We are an organization that values community partnerships and working jointly to build a better world for animals and the people who own them.
Animal Care & Control is a division of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department under support services. It is recognized and emulated nationally as a leading model within the animal welfare community, and takes pride in initiating and implementing progressive programs and pr?actices.
Thank you for contacting Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Animal Care & Control Division. Animal Care & Control is the municipal shelter for the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
We are delighted that you are interested in one of the animals in our care. If you are looking for specific information about this particular pet and/or looking for the adoption fees, please visit our website at http://animals.cmpd.org
The advice we give to adopters is to come to our adoption center and meet the pet you are interested in. This is the best way to know if a pet is the right fit for you and/or your family. So, if you live in or near Mecklenburg County, please come to the shelter. If you live outside of Mecklenburg County or beyond the neighboring counties, you can call the City of Charlotte's costumer service department at 704-336-7006.
Note that the representatives can ONLY retrieve simple information about our pets (confirmation of age, weight, if they are still available, etc.).
Please keep in mind that due to the volume and turnover of the animals in our care, we may have limited information about animals that entered our shelter and have just recently entered our adoption program. Unlike rescue organizations that utilize private foster homes and are able to provide a lot of information regarding the pet’s personality and behaviors, we cannot always answer specific questions such as: if they are housebroken, friendly with children, friendly with cats, other dogs, etc. We will do our very best to provide you with all of the information that we may have on our adoptable animals when you meet with an adoption agent.
Our Adoption Center is located at 8315 Byrum Drive Charlotte, NC 28217.
