All adoptions are first come, first served. We can’t guarantee that specific kitties listed here will be available to adopt by the time you visit our shelter. Petfinder is a GREAT way to view some of our available paws but there are many more in house than included on this site. If you have a question about a cat being dog or kid friendly, please come by in person and meet the kitty. It is hard to promise a cat will get along with all dogs or all children. We do have a dog that is often on premises and just about every cat is fine with him, but every situation is unique.
TO DONATE TO US VIA PAYPAL click on link under "Today's hours" or on "Adoption Application" button. Both will direct you to our Paypal donation page. Scroll down here to see how you can help us even more.
The Humane Society of South Brevard is an independently-run, non-profit, no-kill animal shelter. We do not euthanize any animal unless their quality of life would suffer due to major medical problems. Our cats are free to roam inside our facility. We always strive to provide individual attention to all of our animals until they can be placed in caring, loving, lifetime homes. We have provided this service since 1978. In the unlikely event you find the pet you have adopted does not quite fit into your family, we will always take our cats back.
We take in cats on a pre-arranged basis only. Since we are a no kill shelter we do not "make room" for new cats. As we adopt and have space available we take in more.
**We are working with local attorney Amy B. Fossen PA and her staff-all generous supporters of the HSSB. If you would like to create an estate plan for you, your family and your pet, please call 321-345-5945. We will schedule an appointment for you to create, review and update all of your legal documents. And 5% of our fees will go to the Humane Society of South Brevard! It is a win-win for you and for the charity you support.
AUGUST 2018...We have joined Walk For A Dog!
This is an app you download to your phone and donate to the rescue of your choice every time with every step you take, everyday! You can go to their website or to the appropriate app store for your device to download it! www.wooftrax.com
ADOPTING A FRIEND
The adoption fee is $75.00. This includes feline leukemia and FIV tests, microchip, spaying or neutering, rabies and feline distemper vaccines, and deworming. WE DO NOT adopt to homes that declaw or let their cats outside. It is against the law in Brevard County for your cat to run loose.
We also have a foster program to help with our unadoptable cats and of course you can come and visit anytime. This helps defray the cost of caring for these cats that will spend their lives with us. For more information please call 321-259-0601
HOW YOU CAN HELP
There are many ways you can help our organization. Here's how:
Here are some of the items WE NEED MOST: good topical flea medication like Revolution (Revolution is expensive-it is a multi purpose preventative and just a few doses from each donor would go a long way to helping our paws stay flea-free), paper towels, regular clean old bath towels, canned cat and kitten food and dry kitten food, Purina One adult and kitten dry food and cat litter, scoopable. We can also use Simple Green Cleaner or Orange Plus. We take care of many birds on the property including peacocks and can use wild bird seed and fresh peanuts. Remember everything is tax deductible
If you shop with Amazon, use Smile Amazon and specify us to receive a donation with every purchase you make. Ditto if you use Paypal! And there is a search engine like Google or Yahoo called Goodsearch. If you use www.goodsearch.com and select us we will get a donation from them at the end of the year.
We are always in need of volunteers to help care for the cats and maintain our property. A minimum age of 16 for our volunteers :)
COME VISIT US!
Although there are many good animal care groups in Brevard County, and we support any and all sincere efforts to care for unwanted, abused and neglected animals, we want you to know there are differences. If you have any questions about our policies or mission, please contact us with your questions. We will be more than happy to answer them for you.
Humane Society of South Brevard
2600 Otter Creek Lane Melbourne Florida, 32940
We DO NOT receive any federal, state or county funding. Although we have a small group of regular donors, this does not come close to covering what we spend on the animals. Fortunately, several members have left bequests to our Society and this has enabled us to continue our great work. Please remember the animals when you prepare your will. We have a generous donation offer from a local attorney who specializes in wills and trusts. Amy Van Fossen can plan your living will and trust and will donate 5% of your total costs to us! You may reach her at 321-345-5945. And remember, there are organizations with similar names, so please be specific in naming the Humane Society of South Brevard, Inc. We depend solely on your kindness.
