Zuma's Story
Are those ears going up? We think just maybe. ZUMA is a member of a family of 6 that PUP took in when the mommy was abandoned shortly before her pups were born. A Good Samaritan cared for mom and puppies until they were old enough to come to rescue. Mommy was placed with another rescue. Zuma is people oriented and well socialized. We think he will be in the upper end of mid-size when he is fully grown. We don’t have an exact DOB but the vet thinks he is about 9 weeks on 9-29 when he weighed 9.1#.

We submitted a DNA sample on sister Skye. We are assuming brother Zuma has similar DNA: 25% German Shepherd, 25 % Catahoula Leopard Dog (likely where the brindle in his coat comes from.) 16% Australian Cattle Dog, 11% Border Collie, All the rest are 1-6%: Miniature American Shepherd, Australian Shepherd, Rott weiler, American Pit Bull Terrier, Labrador Retriever, English Springer Spaneil, Siberian Husky and Central Asian Oveharka. In his foster home Zuma is reliably using newspapers and is starting outside house breaking.

The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Puppy has been vet checked, is vaccinated, and de-wormed. He will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopter’s expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done by 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that he be altered by 6 months.

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-334-6935 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.
