Zuko's Story
Zuko loves food, cuddle puddles, and long walks on the beach. He is super sweet, energetic, and we suspect he might actually be made of velcro. He is almost 3 years old, recently neutered, tall and leggy with the floofiest tail. He is half Golden Retriever and half Australian Shepherd. This makes him the smartest, jolliest, goofiest, handsomest(?) guy around! This also means he’s a little on the larger size, at about 60#.

He knows basic commands like sit, stay, down, and spin. His foster parents are working on his house and leash manners. He tends to crowd at doorways, so needs a committed leader who will set clear boundaries, requiring he sit nicely and wait for invitation. When excited he may jump up onto his human, so his foster folks are trying to only reward “four paws on the floor.” Zuko has really been enjoying outdoor adventures and still pulls a bit on leash when first starting out. He really is learning to be more respectful on leash but he’s a young, exuberant and springy fellow, who is excited to explore! The good news is he is EXTREMELY food motivated so continued training should be a breeze!

Zuko would do best in a home with smaller, less boisterous dogs to help show him the ropes, or as the only doggo. He is a little bit sensitive so he can be easily overwhelmed by too much energy. He mostly ignores cats, and seems uninterested in children, but his exposure to kids has been very limited. He definitely needs regular exercise and structure to help build his confidence. Given his size and energy level we think he would make an EXCELLENT outdoor adventure buddy, obedience, scent work or agility prospect.

If you are interested in adopting Zuko, please fill out the application on our website at: https://www.westernaustralianshepherdrescue.com/adoption-application.html.

We schedule meet n greets after a completed application which includes a home visit and reference checks.
