ZORRO Z - JJ (ALGONA IOWA)'s Story

Long distance transport and long distance adoptions can be discussed

STATS, OVERVIEW: (Better photos and video to come ) Zorrow Z is located in Algona, Iowa, being held in quarantine in the shelter, preparing according to ordinances to be moved into the donated boarding facility until we can find him a foster or foster with intent to adopt. JCLDR IS WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO STEP UP. He is a neutered male Catahoula natural bobtail, could be a mix or purebred. We don’t know on that point. Definitely shows the Catahoula. His black hide glistens and it matches the sweet temperament he has exhibited.. just all around NICE. We liked the name of Zorro Z because of the film character who was dressed in all black and had the power of Z which was all for the good. We think dog has great potential to make someone a fine fine friend. He weighs 43 pounds, he is up to date on vaccinations, he is absolutely very human friendly. He has taken shelter stress in stride for the most part. He aims definitely to please human friends he makes easily. Age guestimating him at around 5 years old as of 2025. He handles on leash very good, he seems to have had some manner training and will sit on command.. it is not instant but he thinks about it and responds. When the vet came in to do her HW test she went to get the treat out her bag, he heard the noise and he went right to it like a homing pigeon and sat for the treat. In a shelter it is impossible to find out much about the training they have had.. too much stress and distraction. Have not toy tested him and as far as house broken we do not know. On the way back from the vet and he had to poop, he did not poop in his crate but he did poop when he got out of the crate. He does very well in the crate and got in there on his own.. no coaxing. Good signs on this handsome black boy. He is very quiet at the shelter so far. No sign of excessive anything to date. He is really a good cooperative boy. He handled at the veterinarians extremely well and looked at a smaller breed of dog, sniffed and just kept moving on with the vet. No cats for him but he is good with other dogs and even s some small breeds were tested. He is in temp foster care. . Again no shocking devices or hurtful dog gear on this dog. He shows to some degree that he had a good start with his past humans. He handles well on the other end of the leash. He does jump up in puppy excitement, he appears like he wants a hug. It is not rowdy behavior. He also acts like he likes to use his paws.. That is his interaction and affection. He rides in a crate in the car very well.

HISTORY: He was a stray so we are having to assess by contact via volunteers but all are feeling positive about him.

GOOD: He gives good eye contact and attention is good overall, even with distractions. He really enjoys bootie scratches. He is very affectionate. He isn’t needy but his world gets right when you give him attention and love. Another dog growled at him that was kenneled next to him and he never paid any attention to that dog.

BAD: Possibly not house broken and at the shelter he has been a Houdini about opening latches and doors. That is easy fixed with a little work. JCLDR will help with any behavioral help needed. Possibly why he ended up a stray.

UGLY: No ugly seen in this dog.
