Zeus's Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Our boy Zeus is ready to find his forever home. If you follow our page regularly, you may already know his story. He originally came to us from a local shelter after being surrendered due to a change in his owner’s living situation. What that change was, we will never know. What we do know is that once he was surrendered, it became clear Zeus had a complicated leg break. The shelter reached out to rescues, and of course we stepped in.

After taking him in, we brought Zeus to our vet, where we learned he actually had two fractures in his leg. One was healing, but the other was not. After discussing all options, we were told the best and kindest choice for Zeus was amputation. Today, Zeus is a tripod. But his story doesn’t end there. Zeus is also blind. In one eye he may see shadows; the other has a retinal issue likely caused by a birth defect. Through all of this, Zeus has remained one of the most loving, affectionate boys we have ever met. He proves once again why dogs are truly amazing.

Zeus is now ready to live his life the way he was always meant to. He is absolutely wonderful. He’s the kind of dog who can go just about anywhere. He loves everyone he meets, from babies on up. He is housebroken, crate trained, amazing in the car, playful with squeaky toys, and even does well on a leash. Zeus loves to socialize. He has gone to local farmers markets in his stroller and met so many wonderful people who have given him nothing but love and pets. He sits proudly, smelling all the smells in the air, looking happy and content.

Zeus gets along great with other dogs. He loves to play with them and with his toys. He is very smart — he learned how to use the doggie door within two days of being in his foster home. He enjoys being outside, laying on the deck in the sun, and playing “treats in the grass” every evening. But more than anything, Zeus loves his people. He can’t seem to get enough attention. Anywhere they go, Zeus wants to be. When he wants affection, he nudges you with his nose — his signature “poodle poke.” He’s always right there.

He has learned to navigate life as a tripod beautifully. He can do a set of stairs up and down the porch and will balance on his one back leg to ask to get on the couch. It has only been a month since his surgery, so he does get tired at times, and sometimes his back leg will slide out from under him. These are all things that will continue to improve with time.

Because Zeus is blind and tends to be underfoot, we are asking for a home with a fully fenced yard and slightly older kids, past the toddler stage. He loves children, but he may accidentally cut them off or trip them as they walk. We don’t want anyone getting hurt. Zeus likes dogs, but a home with smaller dogs (shorter or under 25 pounds) may be best for him as he navigates more easily around them.

If you think you can give Zeus the home he was meant to have, make sure you apply today. You won’t be disappointed, and you will end up being loved more than ever. He’s the best little buddy ever.

Zeus is neutered, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm. His adoption fee is $475

We require a martingale collar at the time of adoption. If you do not have one, you may purchase one from Pixie Mamas for an additional $10 to ensure Zeus's safety and security.

Pixie Mamas Rescue's Adoption Policy
Pixie Mamas Rescue does not have a shelter or kennel facility. All dogs live in foster homes - they are part of our families! We have no time limit on how long the dogs stay in foster care - as long as it takes to find a home that suits them. Our foster homes work with the animal on basic manners, crate- and house-training, and correcting any behavioral issues that an animal may have. We require an adoption application, a veterinary reference (if applicable), and a home visit. Unfortunately, we are unable to adopt out of state (including Canada) or over 1.5 hours away from Buffalo, NY. Any travel IN our adoption area is at the discretion of the foster home. We do not ship dogs. You must be willing to come to the Buffalo NY area to complete the adoption after the home visit. The decision to place a dog in a home rests with the Foster home and Pixie Mamas Board. We only have the best interests of the animal at heart and we know best that animal's needs and temperament. Pixie Mamas Rescue reserves the right to approve or deny your application without explanation. Applications are kept on file for 1 year. You do not need to reapply within that year unless your information has changed. Please read the list below of general requirements and information for all adopting families. If you do not meet one of the requirements, please do not submit an Adoption Application. Applicants must be 25 or older Applications must be filled out completely. References are a must! Animals will not be adopted to any college students. Animals may not be adopted as a "gift" for someone unless all family members are aware of the adoption and meet the animal before the adoption takes place Dogs must not be left crated for more than 8 hours If you have a current pet, they must be up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered. This includes cats. Dogs must have annual vet exams.. If renting, verbal approval from the landlord is required to keep the dog on the premises All applicants must be willing to receive a home inspection and meet and greet prior to adoption (all family members and their pets must be present) If you have a current pet, your pet must meet the new pet before the adoption is finalized to make sure they will be compatible to live together We do not adopt small dogs to homes with an electric fence. In addition, an electric fence is not acceptable for dogs that require a fenced in yard. Adoption Fees are Non Negotiable and Non Refundable If you adopt from Pixie Mamas Rescue and you cannot keep the pet for any reason, you must return the animal to Pixie Mamas Rescue. There is no guarantee that because you apply for the dog that you are going to adopt the dog. We seriously consider all applications but if we should suggest another dog for your home, it is because we truly know these dogs and possibly there is another dog that is a better fit. We strive for as best of a match as possible. Proper placement takes into consideration many things, including size, male/female, activity level, children and ages of the children, fencing or lack of, amount of time dog will spend home alone, and many other considerations. We cannot respond to everyone personally. Please follow us on Facebook for updates. We cannot "hold" a dog for you. If you are considering adopting a dog but are going on vacation in the near future, please WAIT until you return to adopt. We do not Foster to Adopt or have trial adoptions We require a non-refundable adoption donation. Our fees start at $350 for adult dogs. "Highly Adoptables" (puppies/purebreds ,etc.) may be more. We sometimes reduce the fee for senior and special-needs dogs for the right adopters and some of our dogs receive sponsorships to help them get adopted. All the animals are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm tested, wormed, flea-treated, and microchipped.
