Zero's Story

*DEAF and VISION IMPAIRED - FENCE REQUIRED - NO EXCEPTIONS*

Fostered in Milton, FL

Meet Zero — the Gentle Giant Who Operates on Love, Zoomies, and Vibes!

Zero may be deaf and partially blind, but don’t let that fool you — this 7-year-old Great Dane has superpowers of his own. With his giant heart and goofy charm, he doesn’t miss a beat (or a squeak) when it comes to spreading joy.

When nighttime hits, Zero transforms into a galloping, toy-tossing blur of happiness — a one-dog zoomie parade! Once he’s gotten his sillies out, he’s all about the good life: sinking into the couch for snuggles and self-petting sessions with your dangling foot (yes, it’s as funny as it sounds).

Zero is actually one of our alumni, now returning to the rescue through no fault of his own. His loving family is moving to Ecuador and, with heavy hearts, made the incredibly selfless decision not to take him along. They knew that such a big move — new sights, sounds, and surroundings — would be far too stressful and confusing for a 7-year-old boy with hearing and vision loss. Instead, they wanted to give Zero the best chance at continuing his happy, comfortable life right here at home.

Zero currently lives peacefully with four other dogs and even shares his space with farm animals — proof of his calm and gentle nature. However, because he can’t always see or hear what’s around him, he sometimes steps on his canine siblings by accident (oops!). It’s never on purpose — just part of navigating life without all his senses. For this reason, Zero will do best in a Dane-savvy home with patient, understanding humans who can help guide him safely. A home without small children would be ideal, since he could accidentally bump into or step on them without realizing it.

He loves his plush toys (especially the squeaky ones, even if he can’t hear them) and may need your help spotting them when they roll just out of view. His world is guided by touch, smell, and love — and he moves through it all with courage, curiosity, and trust.

Zero sleeps soundly on a couch each night, but he does need a light on to help him see where he’s going — otherwise, poor Maggie might find herself accidentally stepped on!

In return for your patience and kindness, Zero will give you endless affection, a good laugh or two, and a daily reminder that love needs no sound or sight to be felt completely.

Zero is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. His adoption fee is $300. To review the adoption requirements before applying to adopt Zero, please visit www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.

Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. All approved adopters are required to pick up the dog in person from his or her foster parent.

Our adoption requirements are as follows: 1. All Dogs and Cats in your home MUST be spayed or neutered. We will call your vet to verify this. We allow exceptions in rare medical instances upon verification with your vet only. 2. All Dogs and outdoor Cats in your home MUST be current and have been kept historically up to date on annual vaccinations and monthly (or semiannual) heartworm and flea prevention. We will call your vet to verify this. We allow exceptions to this in rare medical instances upon verification with your vet, ONLY. 3. You must be a minimum of 21 years of age to adopt and be able to prove you're financially able to care for a great dane should a medical emergency arise. 4. You must own the property in which you live or your landlord must be willing to verify that you are allowed to have a Great Dane in your rental home. We check property records.? 5. Our Great Danes require a sturdy fenced in yard, particularly young or active danes. Generally, a six-foot or higher privacy fencing is preferred. In certain circumstances, the Board may waive this requirement depending upon the Dane's personality and temperament. Any such exceptions will solely be at the discretion of the Rescue Board. Under no circumstances will we consider invisible or electric fencing as acceptable. 6. We only adopt Dogs as indoor pets. We will not adopt Dogs to be used as guard dogs or to be kept out-of-doors. 7. A home visit is required for ALL adoptions, without exception. This is not a white-glove inspection, rather it is to ensure that the home is a safe environment for the Great Dane. 8. We do not transport. If you are applying from out of area or out of state, understand that if your application gets approved, you will be expected to pick up the dane in the location that he/she is being fostered. In addition, if the adoption does not work out, it is your responsibility to bring the dane safely back to us. 9. There may be multiple applications for the same Dog. Our Great Danes are placed in the home we believe most suitable for them, based upon their individual needs and temperament. 10. Before applying below, please expect this application process to take about two weeks. If you are applying from out of area or state, please expect a slight delay. It will take us more time to get the home visit set up. At any time, if you have questions about the status of your application, please email the rescue at nwflgdr@gmail.com.
