Instead, she became a mother far too soon.

Then disaster struck.

When devastating floods swept through the area and the water continued to rise around her newborn puppies, this young mama did what mothers do. Terrified and exhausted, she carried her tiny babies to higher ground, refusing to leave them behind. Somehow, through courage and determination that seems impossible for one so young, she kept four of her newborn puppies alive until rescuers could reach them.

When Zena arrived at rescue, her body told the story of everything she had endured. She was thin. Her coat was patchy. Her eyes carried the weight of fear and heartbreak. For weeks, she focused on being a mom while learning that she was finally safe.

Slowly, she began to heal. She gained weight. Her beautiful black fur started growing back. The worry in her eyes softened. She learned that kind hands bring comfort, not fear. She learned that she didn't have to carry the weight of the world on her shoulders anymore.

One by one, her puppies found loving homes. And through it all, Zena watched them leave.

Now she's waiting.... For her person.

Because beneath her incredible survival story is just the sweetest girl. Zena loves everyone she meets. She adores other dogs. She absolutely LOVES cats and would happily share her home with feline friends. She's house-trained, walks beautifully on a leash, and sleeps peacefully in her crate all night.

Her only enemies in life? Squirrels and bunnies. Those little troublemakers simply cannot be trusted.

Most of all, Zena loves being near her people. She's the kind of dog who wants to follow you from room to room, just happy to be included in whatever you're doing. Making coffee? She's there. Folding laundry? She's helping. Working at the computer? She'll be nearby, making sure you don't get lonely. And when the day is done, she dreams of curling up beside her favorite person on the couch, resting her head on your lap, and finally knowing she's home.

After everything she has survived, Zena doesn't need a perfect family. She just needs one that will love her. One that will let her stop being brave. One that will show her that the rest of her life can be filled with warmth, soft beds, belly rubs, and the security she's never known. Zena spent her puppyhood saving her babies.

Now it's time for someone to save a spot on the couch, and in their heart, for her.

Zena

8.5 months old

Shar Pei/Cocker Spaniel mix

House-trained

Crate-trained

Walks beautifully on a leash

Loves dogs

Loves cats

Affectionate, social, and loyal

Wants to be your shadow and couch buddy

Ready for the forever home she has waited so long to find
