Zena's Story

Meet Zena, a happy and sweet, 6-and-a-half-year-old, black & tan female Doberman. She is just a little girl at 60 pounds. She has naturally floppy ears and a docked tail. She is a smart and loving girl who quickly acclimatized to her foster home. She loves to follow you around and wait for her pets like the true velcro dog that she is. Zena is looking for a couch potato lifestyle. She likes to curl up beside you when watching TV so she can be near you. At night she sleeps on a dog bed on the floor next to the bed.

She is a happy girl who can be left at home alone with run of the house. She doesn’t need a crate but will go into a crate if needed and sometimes on her own. She doesn’t take or destroy things around the house that don’t belong to her. She’s not destructive – not even with her toys. She’s not a big fan of toys but will pull one out of the box every so often. When she is home alone, she spends most of her time sleeping on one of her beds or on her favorite spot on the couch. She has been known to do some whining when first left alone but quickly quiets down. She is most happy when her people get home though.

Zena knows “sit” and “down” and is working on “come”. She is house-trained and waits patiently for meals. She is very relaxed when eating and eats slowly. Zena is an angel when riding in the car. She takes turns sitting and laying down and is well behaved by herself in the back seat.

Zena has Wobbler's Disease which you can see with her notable gait when walking, which means she will need a low impact lifestyle. Zena has plenty of years left in her life, but will be impacted by this diagnosis. That doesn't mean she can't live a full life. Zena LOVES to use her nose outside. She will track all through the yard smelling where the squirrels and other small animals have been. She likes taking short walks and walks well on the leash. Her diagnosis though does mean that she can't play rough with other dogs, so if you have a dog, an older or less rough-playing dog would be her best companion. A low impact lifestyle means - minimized jumping, minimized stairs, shorter walks, and using a harness rather than a neck collar.
Zena is happily awaiting her forever home and is currently being fostered in Virginia.
DAR&E adopts to MD, VA, DC, DE, eastern parts of WV and southern parts of PA. Please check with other Doberman rescues in areas not listed.
