Zara's Story

Zara is a 65 lb. red tri-color Aussie who is 4 yo. She lost her home due to family circumstances and is looking to settle down as part of a new family who will take her for rides in the car and walks anywhere. Zara is a happy-go-lucky, loving, medium energy Aussie dog who is quiet around home but gets excited to go outside and on adventures. In the yard she definitely likes to chase the squirrels and bunnies sniffing all around for trails. She is currently living with a cat in the house and is generally good however at times she thinks it is fun to chase the cat so they must be very tolerant and dog-savvy if she is to live with a cat.

As for dogs she has lived with multiple dogs and has been good meeting dogs however she does get excited barking and lunging if on the leash. Barking and pulling are her biggest challenges. Her foster home is working with her to tone down her excitement levels but this work will have to continue. She already knows sit and paw, lived with 5 kids, and is very well adjusted to all the normal activities in the house. She is generally calm around kids but with her parents can jump a bit when excited.

New encounters of most kinds cause her to bark. If someone is visiting or she is meeting someone elsewhere, it does take her a couple minutes to quiet down and feel comfortable. Then she is happy to accept pets and treats. Zara is learning to pay better attention on a leash but she never had any real training. She does listen well and comes when called. Squeaky toys and balls are her favorite toys and she will chase them if they are tossed. At home she is safe to be loose when left alone but is fine in a crate if needed.

Zara is ready for adoption but won’t go to a new home until after she is spayed on May 13th. At 65 lbs. she needs to lose some weight but with exercise and a sensible diet that should be easy. She had some itchy skin, due to food and anxiety, but that has mostly cleared and her skin and coat are healing nicely. Zara just wants a family to call home and her happy, loving nature will win over everyone.

To apply for her visit www.ns4ar.org
