Yumi's Story
Yumi is currently in a foster home. If you would like to meet her, please start by visiting www.sccrescue.org and completing an application.

Yumi—whose name means “beauty” in Korean—lives up to it in the most effortless, heartwarming way. Like a quiet morning in Seoul when the light hits just right, she brings a calm joy wherever she goes. Completely house-trained and wonderfully independent, Yumi will politely run to the door when she needs to go out and rests peacefully when left alone. She doesn’t need a crate—she carries herself with the grace of a dog who simply understands home. And when she’s happy, her signature underbite smile appears, bright and sweet like cherry blossoms in full bloom.

Don’t let her 10 years fool you—Yumi still carries a lively spirit beneath her soft Shih Tzu fluff. She delights in slow walks, nose to the ground as she takes in every scent like a stroll through a spring garden. Birds, squirrels, and rustling leaves may spark her curiosity, but her energy is balanced by a gentle, easygoing nature. She loves all dogs, is perfectly comfortable with cats, and is wonderful with children of all ages. Her voice is soft and sparing, only chiming in at the doorbell or a particularly tempting backyard visitor.

At home, Yumi is pure comfort. She’ll curl up beside you for a nap, lounge on the couch, or tuck herself under the covers like a tiny, devoted shadow. She isn’t one for toys—her joy comes from companionship, from simply being near her person. Mealtimes are quick and enthusiastic (twice a day, no fuss, no guarding), and she appreciates treats that are easy to chew. With no bad habits and a heart full of affection, Yumi has a quiet magic about her—the kind that gently brightens your day, again and again, just by being there.

We love our dogs. We want happy lives for all of them and are looking for the home that provides the best fit for each dog’s individual needs. Please understand that there may be multiple families interested in this dog.

Also, please know that the breed mix listed is simply a guess. In most cases, we don’t know their background. We encourage you to base your decision on individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on our guess.

Please understand, we only adopt our animals out near the Chicagoland area. Questions? Email us at adoptions@sccrescue.org. Hope to see you become part of the SCCR family!
