Xena's Story
Xena didn't kick the door down when she arrived.
She tiptoed in. Quiet. Careful.
She came to Animal Aid Society from an overcrowded shelter carrying a suitcase full of questions. Are people kind? Is noise dangerous? If I take up space, will I be pushed away?
So, at first, she made herself small. Disappear-into-shadows, cower-in-corners small.
And then something marvelous happened.
Xena started practicing joy.
Now when it's time to leave her run, she launches like she's late for the best party of her life. Twenty-nine pounds of enthusiasm, limbs flailing in a way that suggests gravity is more of a suggestion than a rule, she zips past with a grin like a secret, circles back for a lightning-fast nose boop, then checks in again -- just to be sure you're still there.
She wants connection the way flowers want sun. Desperately. Earnestly. With her whole being.
The world is still a little loud for her, and she's still learning that safety can be permanent. She looks to her people the way a kid looks up from the deep end -- not to be rescued, just to know someone's watching. With consistency, patience, and a gentle rhythm to her days, Xena will give you something rare: the privilege of watching confidence take root.
Right now, she needs a home with a securely fenced yard -- a place where she can explore without pressure, build courage without chaos, and discover that freedom doesn't have to be frightening. Sidewalks and traffic can wait. Growth doesn't rush.
Come meet Xena. Meet the dog who is mid-transformation. Meet the soft soul learning how to shine.
Because once the light finds her, she'll never seek the shadows again.
Animal Aid Society is located at 80 Butler Farm Road in Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, including weekends and holidays.
Requires a home with a securely fenced yard.
Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm. Hope to see you soon!

PLEASE NOTE: Animal Aid Society observes a 40 mile adoption radius to facilitate post adoption support and follow ups.
