Meet Wilbur/courtesy post
Wilbur is not at the Shelter. He lives in Berwick, Maine. If you think Wilbur might be a good fit for you and want to learn more, please contact his current owner directly: tkoukol47@gmail.com. She lives less than two hours from Medfield.
Wilbur is a four-year-old Lab mix who weighs approximately 65 lbs. He is not at the Medfield Shelter. He is with his current family who lives in Maine. They love him dearly but have come to the difficult decision that they need to find him a new home where he can be the only dog. They rescued him a few years ago and have invested a lot of time and training to help him become a less anxious dog. He is neutered, up-to-date on all his vaccinations, and microchipped.
"We are looking to re-home Mr. Wilbur because he will do best in a home where he is an only dog. Chase (our 9 yr old husky) and Wilbur get along and actually prefer each others’ company most of the time, it is just when they fight due to highly stimulating situations things can escalate to an uncomfortable level (the current rate is 1 fight every 3-4 months). All fights were considered provoked, he does not have unpredictable aggression towards our other dog. With a newborn in the house who will start crawling soon, we are worried it could lead to an unfortunate accident.
Wilbur is a great dog! He absolutely loves cuddles and could spend all day just chilling on the couch with you. He has some anxieties that have gotten better since we adopted him and in the right home, will continue to improve. He is extremely trainable. He follows commands such as “Bed” and “Kennel." He is also crate trained and housebroken, He is good on leash (but not perfect). He does like to chew things (shoes, mugs, baby toys, clothes) We think commend if there are children that they should be age 10 or older. He is good with our 6-month old; just does not understand how big he is and gets overly-excited easily; he has had absolutely no aggression towards him or any person.
We will be willing to give the new owner the following items: a bag of his current food, his Seresto collar (flea and tick preventative), two dog beds, his crate, training collar, comfort blankets, various sweaters and jackets, and a few kong toys. We also have some anxiety medicine for when he has to take a trip to the vet.
