Wilbur's Story

Wilbur was found scavenging through trash, doing his best to survive on his own. Despite his rough start, he's an incredibly sweet boy who truly loves people and craves attention.
He can be reactive around other dogs and cats, so he may do best as the only pet or with slow, careful introductions. Wilbur is a strong walker and will need someone who can confidently handle him on a leash.
The good news: he's very food-motivated, which makes training a great opportunity-he already knows "sit" and is eager to learn more.
We're still getting to know Wilbur and will continue to update his profile as we learn more about his personality and needs.
Wilbur is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and has started dewormer. Wilbur did test heartworm positive and has started the slow-kill method of treatment. He'll need to be kept on an ivermectin based prevention until he can be retested in a year.

Erath County Humane Society's Adoption Policy
When someone comes in wanting to adopt, we first ask what they are looking for in a new pet. If they can describe what they are looking for, we will make some suggestions based on that criteria, and then let them go through the shelter looking at the adoptable animals. There are kennel cards on each kennel with information specific to that animal. Once they find an animal they are interested in we do a meet and greet with the person interested in adopting. If they have other pets, we recommend a meet and greet with current pets as well. Whatever animal the potential adopter chooses, we highly suggest a 5 day foster period to make sure the animal and the adopter are a good fit.
