Whitney's Story

Meet dear Whitney -- a quiet, loving, and incredibly smart little girl with the softest heart. This precious soul has just one dream: a forever home where she can snuggle close and never have to wonder where she belongs again.

Whitney was found as a stray alongside another dog in Memphis and brought to Memphis Animal Services. At the shelter, she was timid but oh-so-sweet -- gently craving the love and reassurance she had clearly been missing. When her current foster met her, there was no walking away. Whitney's tender spirit captured her heart, and she was given the second chance she so deeply deserved.

In her foster home, Whitney has truly blossomed. She can be a little timid with some male strangers (though not all), and because she's a bit jumpy at times, older, respectful children would be best. Once she feels safe, her affectionate nature shines. She listens beautifully and is eager to please -- the kind of dog who watches her person closely, just wanting to get it right.

Whitney now does well with her canine foster siblings. It took her a little time to understand how to romp and play, but now she happily joins in with other active, playful dogs. She does prefer her toys to herself, but she's otherwise a gentle and easy companion. She has met an outdoor cat in her foster home -- she may give chase if the cat runs, but when calm, she is curious and respectful.

Leash training is in process, but she is both house-trained and crate-trained. She sleeps perfectly in her crate overnight and does well crated during the day -- as long as she's not completely alone in the house. If another dog is home, she's content. But when left entirely alone, she becomes quite anxious. Whitney would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time or where she has a canine companion to keep her company.

Above all else, Whitney wants to love and be loved. Her favorite things? Being petted, cuddling as close as physically possible, playing a good game of fetch in the yard, and happily chewing on a toy in her crate. Her love language is physical touch, and her happy place is right beside you -- or better yet, curled up in your lap.

Whitney is an overall gentle, devoted girl who is simply waiting for her person. A home filled with affection, patience, and plenty of snuggles will allow her to continue growing into the confident, joyful companion she's meant to be. If you're looking for a loyal shadow with a tender heart, Whitney just might be your perfect match.

Name: Whitney
Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (DNA has not been done and therefore no guarantees are made with regard to this dog's breed mix).
Sex: Female
Age: 1 year (estimated)
Weight: 41.0
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Vaccinations: Up to date
Heartworm: Positive on recent testing.
