Whimsy Joy's Story

Whimsy Joy!
She is a 1-year-old female we rescued from the IA hoarding case. Whimsy recently had puppies so her coat is thin, but it will be full and lush once again! She is being fostered in IA, but can be adopted to a home in another state. Adopters do need to travel to foster homes for their meet and greets. We do not ship for fly dogs.

If you’re interested in adopting Whimsy please apply: Samoyed-rescue.com

More about Whimsy:
Playful, happy, energetic. Loves to run and jump (can jump the pet gate in the house). A bit nervous/ tentative at first when trying new things. She does have a little separation anxiety, wants foster mom there while eating.

She’s so sweet, especially with her little stuffed monkey. She’s very attached and mothers it. She has such a sweet demeanor.

She loves t play and go for walks. She especially loves her stuffies and that monkey most of all. Loves being outside and heads to the gate hoping for a walk. Would probably love running if you’re looking a running buddy.

The monkey is her favorite toy and will go with her to her new home. She does like chew toys, especially things that make a crackling sound.

She would do better with a confident, playful dog. Would be happy to play with a kid or an adult who wants to run around with her in the yard or through the neighborhood (on leash, of course).

She likes to snuggle, but not extensively or for long. She does also like her own space.

She is eating a combination of Aldi Grain Free Salmon and Sweet Potato kibble along with canned Nutrisource Lamb. She doesn’t want to eat if foster mom doesn't stay with her.

She’s doing pretty well with the housebreaking. Not more than roughly an accident a week, which is pretty great for an outdoor dog. She has a bit of a nervous tummy and can get the runs when she’s had an upsetting event, like after the car ride to the vet.

She did chew off a corner of the silicone food puzzle. Not too destructive otherwise. Lots of pillows in the house but leaves them alone, as well as furniture and blankets. She will try to chew the leash if she doesn’t want to come back
in the house. Does pretty well when I say Leave It. Foster mom hasn't had time yet for much regular obedience training one-on-one.

Foster home has both cats and dogs. She has been gentle with the cats -
better than the resident dogs. They’ve been fine together. No aggression. The host family dogs are smaller and older, not very interested in playing, but she does respect that & hasn't pushed it. She would prefer a playful dog close to her own size and energy level.

Resident dogs have tried teaching her the essentials of neighborhood watch, trying to teach her to be a good Gladys Kravitz, but she just watches out the window with them - doesn't join in on the barking much. She was a little nervous with kids in the house at first, but likes to play with kids in the yard. Still a little overwhelmed with too many people around at once.

She needs a securely fenced yard. She would like to escape and run, run, run! She does prowl the perimeter of the yard looking for a weak link. She’s fast and can jump. She would do best with a confident, playful dog in the household. (Please note we do not allow electric fences as the primary source of containment).

All the visitors to the house have loved her. Foster mom will miss her when she is adopted but knows she’d love to be with a pack that is more playful.
