She is naturally shy, and new environments, loud noises, and unfamiliar situations can make her nervous, but she does well on walks in quieter areas and is gradually becoming more comfortable. At home, she is incredibly calm and has a low-to-medium energy level. She loves to sleep, relax, and sit right next to people, and she seems happiest simply being near someone she trusts. She is very gentle with people of all ages and is especially wonderful with children. She isn't mouthy, doesn't nip or bite, and isn't interested in rough play. She is also gentle with other dogs and animals. Overall, she is a quiet, gentle, low-to-medium energy dog who would thrive with a patient family that can give her time to come out of her shell and feel safe."<br/><br/>Level of dog ownership experience required:<br/>INTERMEDIATE – As an adult, this dog will need significant structure and plenty of daily exercise, training, and mental stimulation – 90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning plus potty break walks and brain games throughout the day. The adopter must have relevant primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level. (Primary care experience includes ownership, fostering, or dog sitting as an adult, not a dog you grew up with.) Relevant puppy care experience is a huge plus, but bare minimum the adopter must have TONS of time and patience. Raising a puppy can be a lot of fun, but it's also tremendous work. Puppies' personalities and exercise/stimulation requirements change dramatically between now and when they're a year old as their bodies and brains develop, so an active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup's evolving needs are a must. We strongly urge professional dog training with a rewards based trainer from the get go. Adults only or kids ages 8 and up – all puppies go through a mouthy, rambunctious phase and often accidentally hurt children when playing. PLEASE DO YOUR OWN BREED RESEARCH to make sure you have a better understanding of the kind of temperament and exercise requirements this dog may have as an adult.<br/><br/>Energy level:<br/>MEDIUM – She is pretty chill indoors, sleeps a lot, and doesn't demand constant stimulation. She enjoys walks but is not extremely high-energy.<br/><br/>Tolerance to the city: She is easily spooked by loud noises, bustling areas, and new things. She does much better in quieter areas or places she's been to a lot. She needs time to build confidence. A calmer part of the city or suburbs would probably be ideal.<br/><br/>Potty trained? Very few accidents. She always pees outside and consistently poops outside on walks. She has never peed in the house and has only pooped inside twice. She will chew through pee pads.<br/><br/>Comfort level with strangers: She is shy and timid with unfamiliar people who come with a lot of energy. But in seconds, if a person is calm with her, she's immediately comfortable and seeks their affection. She jumps on people she knows when saying hello, but not strangers.<br/><br/>Social with dogs?She is gentle with other animals and does well around them. She is not interested in rough play. Overly excited animals will scare her.<br/><br/>Social with children? (ALWAYS requires adult supervision)She is extremely gentle and calm with children and is not mouthy. She does not nip or bite. Adult supervision is, of course, still required.<br/><br/>Social with cats?She is gentle with other animals and does not display aggressive or overly excitable behavior around them.<br/><br/>Mouthy play: One of her funniest quirks is that she likes to collect socks! She doesn't seem interested in destroying things other than paper and pee pads. She is not mouthy at all. She does not nip, bite, grab hands, or use her mouth during play. She doesn't lick really at all. She loves to sniff and sit next to people.<br/><br/>Separation anxiety: Her biggest challenge right now is separation anxiety. She can wait at the front door for as much as an hour. She does not destroy things when left alone, but she becomes sad/pouty and struggles with being separated from her people. She would benefit from continued separation-anxiety training.<br/><br/>Leash manners: She is a mild puller when she smells something new. When she is scared, she will not walk at all. When confident in a familiar area, she doesn't pull at all.<br/><br/>Cuddle bug level: She doesn't put herself in people's laps, but she loves sitting next to her people and being close. She will always go to rooms with people and nap almost immediately.<br/><br/>Crate trained?She hates the crate and is not currently comfortable being confined in one. She will need continued positive crate training. I have taught her to sleep in her dog bed, but she can only do so if someone is in the room with her.<br/><br/>Medical status:<br/>Healthy as far as we know. Up to date on their DHPP and Bordetella vaccines, spayed/neutered; microchipped; treated with dewormer upon intake. (For dogs under 4 months old, adopters will need to finish the DHPP vaccine series and administer the Rabies vaccine at 16 weeks of age.)<br/><br/>How did this dog end up with Social Tees?<br/>Most of our dogs come via partner groups who help us save them from shelters where they are at risk of euthanasia in Tennessee, Los Angeles, and Puerto Rico. There are very few spay/neuter resources there and many more animals in those areas than there are people to adopt them. Rescue groups like ours bring them to the northeast where the desire for pets like these allows us to save their lives. <br/><br/>PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee any breed mix, exact age, or full grown size (if the dog is under a year old).
