This smart, affectionate boy is looking for a calm (foster to adopt) home where he can enjoy plenty of cuddles, playtime, and cozy blankets.<br/><br/>Walter is crate trained, leash trained, and knows an impressive list of commands, including sit, stay, shake, high five, come, down, roll over, and even how to roll his ball back to you when you ask, Ready? Hes incredibly intelligent, though he has that classic Dachshund stubborn streak!<br/><br/>His favorite thing in the world? Balls! He loves to play fetch and is always ready for a game. Stuffed toys dont last long around Walter, but he has a blast de-stuffing them.<br/><br/>Walter would do best in a home with older, respectful children who understand how to give him space. The excitement and unpredictability of very young children can be overwhelming for him. He has been attacked by another dog in the past, so a patient family willing to help him continue building confidence is important. He is very picky about which dogs he likes so he may do best as the one and only dog in the home. <br/><br/>Walter has a chicken allergy, so hell need a chicken-free diet. Hes adaptable when it comes to food and is happiest curled up under a soft blanket beside his favorite human.<br/><br/>If your looking for a loyal companion with lots of love to give, Walter may be the perfect addition to your family! While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments. Therefore we adopt to families who live in single family homes (or Duplexes) with secure fenced yards.<br/><br/>OUR CRITERIA:<br/><br/>Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have found that the following criteria best sets up our doxies and their new families for success. <br/><br/>Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We generally do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together. We prefer non-smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues. <br/><br/>All our dogs are vetted and vaccinated. If available, theyll come with a few goodies to get you started (food, toys and a harness). The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet/dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.<br/><br/>Can you give Walter a happy, carefree forever home?
