Yes!
• HOUSEBROKEN? NOT 100% YET. As a dog rescued off the street and transitioning from living on indoor tile/ outdoor dirt surfaces in Mexico, they'll need time and patience to adjust to a new environment, but most of our dogs adapt to a potty routine within 1-2 weeks with consistent training.

🐾 Meet VITO 🐾

Vito's life started rough. As a puppy, he was found scavenging the streets of Jocotepec, hungry and alone. A compassionate community member took him in, gave him a home alongside other rescued dogs, and for a while, life was good. Then his owner passed away, and Vito—through no fault of his own—ended up back on the streets, needing someone to step in.

That's when The Meximutt Project took him in, two years ago. Two years. Vito has been waiting for his forever home for so long. Not because anything is wrong with him. Quite the opposite—he's one of the best dogs we've ever met, out of the hundreds that we rescued. He's just been overlooked. Maybe it's because he's a medium-sized dog. Maybe it's because people hear "Pit Bull/Rottweiler mix" and make assumptions before they ever meet him. But those assumptions couldn't be further from the truth.

For example, Vito was initially unsure about cats. But one day his foster decided to just give him space, let him figure things out on his own terms. And he did. He started trusting and spending more time around them. Then one day, his foster walked in and found Vito asleep on the couch, a cat curled up right next to him. "I just let him figure it out on his own, and he showed me who he really was," she says. Since then, he's been a peaceful presence around cats, birds, chickens, even feisty little Chihuahuas. He just... coexists, gently, with everything.

That's Vito in a nutshell. Leave him alone in the house with cables, shoes, plastic bags—anything he could theoretically destroy—and when you come back, not a thing will be out of place. He's calm and grounded, the kind of presence that makes a house feel settled. At night, he sleeps on the floor, content and quiet, no fuss.

But he loves people. When you're around, he's happy to be near you, soaking up pets and affection like sunshine. He enjoys the company without being clingy about it—the perfect balance of independent and loving. And when the mood strikes? He can go from zero to full-on puppy energy in seconds, racing around the yard with the other dogs, tail wagging, tongue out, pure joy.

He's also learned to walk on leash beautifully—something he had to learn from scratch, since he'd never needed one before. Now he lines up eagerly when he sees it come out, tail wagging, ready for the adventure.

"I completely trust him," his foster says simply. "With kids, alone in the yard—I never worry." And after two years of watching Vito be consistently, effortlessly good, that trust is well earned.

His foster describes Vito as the "perfect dog", one that is gentle with every living creature he's encountered, and endlessly loving and patient. He's not a project or a challenge. He's just a really, truly good dog who deserves someone to finally see that.

What Vito needs is someone who sees him for who he really is: a calm, loving, gentle presence who's been waiting two years for someone to choose him. Someone who'll let him sleep on the floor or curl up next to them on the couch. Someone who'll take him for walks, show him affection, and give him the quiet, stable forever home he's more than earned.

He's been passed over too many times, for no good reason. Are you willing to be the person who finally sees past the stereotype and gives this extraordinary dog the home he's deserved all along?

*************************

📝 Ready to apply?
