Vinny's Story

Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization.

Meet Vinny!

Don't let his age fool you—8-year-old Vinny has the energy and enthusiasm of a dog half his age! This handsome, neutered pug weighs just under 20 pounds and is looking for a forever home where he can be the center of someone's world.

Vinny came from a loving home where his world was disrupted by a new baby and an aging parent. He simply was not able to adapt to the changes, and the difficult decision was made to lovingly surrender him so he could find a quieter home where he could thrive.

Vinny is an affectionate, loyal little guy who forms strong bonds with his people. Once he chooses you, he'll be your devoted shadow, following you from room to room and soaking up every bit of attention he can get. In fact, Vinny's favorite thing in the world is simply being near his humans.

This active boy loves long walks and does wonderfully on a leash. He also enjoys playing fetch with his favorite stuffed toys, although adopters should know that he tends to get a little carried away and may dismantle them in his excitement! A budget for tough chew toys should be in effect. He's been getting plenty of exercise and walks which his foster says has reduced his dead lambie count. Vinny loves his food, enjoys treats, and hasn't met a snack he doesn't like.

When meeting new people, Vinny can be a bit cautious at first, but he warms up quickly with proper introductions, and becomes a friendly, loving companion. He knows several commands, including sit, paw, and wait, and rides exceptionally well in the car, sitting calmly in his car seat looking out the window during trips.

Vinny is house-trained and has excellent hearing, vision, and mobility. He is currently receiving Simparica Trio as his preventative medication and eats Royal Canin dry food twice daily.

Vinny's ideal home is one where someone is around most of the time. This was the life he had with his former family. He has never really had to be alone. He experiences significant separation anxiety and becomes very distressed when left alone, even if other dogs are present. Because of this, we believe he would thrive with a retired adopter or someone who works from home and enjoys having a constant companion. We are hopeful that over time in his new home with patience and a new sense of security, Vinny will show improvement with his separation anxiety, but we will seek out an adopter who is able to provide him with the companionship he needs to feel safe.

While Vinny can coexist with other dogs, he would likely prefer to be the only dog in the home so he doesn't have to share his beloved humans. He is happiest when all the attention is focused on him. Not to mention, he is a bit of a butt sniffer and humper and we find resident dogs do not typically appreciate this type of behavior.

Vinny would love a home with a fenced yard, a walking-friendly neighborhood, and someone who enjoys daily adventures as much as cozy time together. Whether you're heading out for a stroll or relaxing at home, Vinny is happiest when he's by your side.

If you're looking for a loving, energetic companion who will reward you with unwavering devotion and endless affection, Vinny may be the perfect addition to your family.

ADOPTION FEE: $400.00 based on his age

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADOPTING VINNY:

Preferably an only dog, would consider well-adjusted small dog with experienced adopter

Not cat tested

Dog savvy respectful children age 10 and older

Fenced yard preferred

Retired/work from home or staggered schedule to allow for human companionship

Patience and willingness to work with separation anxiety

No apartment living

Daily walks and enrichment activities

Meet all health and wellness needs to include wellness visit and preventatives for Heartworm, flea and tick exposures

*Please note: all other pets must have record reflecting ongoing heartworm and parasite prevention to be considered for adoption

If you are interested in adopting, your home situation MUST meet this criteria:

A vet reference check, dog walker check (if applicable), landlord check (if applicable), a phone interview and home visit will be conducted prior to approval. If you think a pug is right for your family and you meet the criteria, please apply to adopt on our website at www.pugrescueofnewengland.org.

BE SURE TO REFERENCE THE SPECIFIC PUG!

Our mission is simple: we find homes for abandoned and surrendered pugs in New England. Our pugs will be UTD on shots and spayed or neutered prior to adoption. You must be a resident of the New England states. Due to a change in state regulations, we are no longer adopting outside of New England.

PRoNE is supported by adoption fees, donations and funds raised through auctions and events. Adoption fees range from $200-$1,000 which is based on age of the dog. Effective in January 2023, we have imposed a $150 Spay/Neuter Fee (if required) and a $500 Transportation Fee (For dogs requiring air/cargo travel). Pug Mixes will be discounted by $100 off the fee for their age range.
