She cared for the pup for a few days before alerting PUP and asking if we could take him.<br/><br/>He is in a foster home with teenagers and a playful adult dog where he seems to be thriving. The vet thought he was between 8 -10 weeks on June 12 and he tipped the scale at 6#. We think he will be in the upper end of small breed when he is fully grown, but that is best guess since we dont know his exact age or who either parent is. His foster family says Vinny is a cuddly puppy who loves chewing on sticks, laying in grass, and cuddles. He is great with kids and dogs. He is a good leash walker and also good in the crate. He loves attention, the more the better. <br/><br/>We had DNA testing done but it will not be back until late June. We are guessing he is a Cairn terrier or Norwich terrier cross, but that is just best guess. His adopter should be ready to love and cuddle pup if he is larger or smaller than predicted.<br/><br/>Vinny is just beginning to learn about house breaking. His foster family is working on it hard with him. He seems to be cleaver and eager to please so that will help. Small breed dogs are often more difficult to house break than larger dogs, so his adopter should be committed to putting in the effort.<br/><br/>The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. <br/><br/>Puppy has been vet checked, is vaccinated, and de-wormed. He will need two additional puppy vaccinations plus rabies at the adopters expense. We do place puppies outside the metro area if a firm plan for the alter surgery is in place; we do not ship. His required alter surgery is covered by the adoption fee if it is done by 6 months at the PUP clinic. We require that he be altered by 6 months.<br/><br/>If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. We are pretty slow at responding to e-mail. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.
