Vinny's Story

Vinny is a great little guy, he came into our care after being returned to a shelter. He had been in a home for 2 1/2 months and then they sent him back. We brought him into our care instead of him going to sit in a shelter. The previous family stated "he was too submissive to their other dog."

We think he enjoys the company of dogs his size best, or at least ones that aren't super dominant. He loves his playmates now, one is another short legged Basett mix puppy, a playful puppy, a 45 lb all around amazing adult dog, and 2 little dogs that weigh 10 lbs.

Vinny is a smart boy, he has learned to sit for treats, he copied the other dogs, watched what they were doing and picked up what we asked rather quickly. He loves to run and play, walks well on the leash and is an affectionate boy.

He can be nervous in new situations, we think having a confident, but gentle dog sibling will help him in this department. He definitely picks up social cues from his peers. We have found that he can be growly with his food with the other dogs. The dogs he stays with allow him to do that, but he would probably do best being fed separately in his new home until boundaries can be set. We have corrected him when we catch him doing this.

When we first met Vinny, he was very fearful, of course we was just surrendered from the only family he knew. His new family will need to give him a little time to adjust as he has had a lot of change in the last few months.

Vinny just wants someone that will commit to him, allow him to blossom into the best boy. He has done so very well while with us!

We are not entirely sure what his breed mix is, he has shorter legs, a longer body and his markings remind us of a Heeler possibly. He weighs 23 lbs and is close to 6 months old. Vinny comes fully vetted with all age appropriate vaccinations, neutered and microchipped.

This is an Out Of Town listing, we transport near the city on this listing.
_______________________________
Considering adoption?

Start by filling out our online application (copy and paste the following link)
https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DIX/dog

Once submitted, we'll review it and reach out to approved applicants by phone or email within 1-2 days.

COMPLETED APPLICATIONS TAKE PRECEDENCE OVER EMAIL INQUIRIES. Our Adoption Process: Our goal is to match the right pet with the right adopter. **Minimum adopter age is 23** 1. Once we receive the completed application, we will call your vet references, personal reference, and landlord (if applicable). 2. Once you get an approval, we will set up a time for a phone call and typically can offer a video call with the potential animal. 3. All adoptions will be finalized and fees collected prior to the transport of your new family member. Adoption fees will not be refunded if you simply change your mind. We only hold an animal for adoption once a deposit has been paid or the full adoption fee has been paid. 4. We will coordinate with you to transport your new pet to one of our many transport destinations if you are not a local adopter. **We reserve the right to refuse an adoption if we feel it is not a good fit.**
