Velvet's Story
There's nothing quite like the fun of a Boston Terrier's silliness! These super-smart and very loving dogs are so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a scary shelter with euthanasia always a possibility due to lack of space or on the terrifying streets alone and hungry.

Velvet is an adorable, 2 year old, 19lb purebred Boston Terrier with a sweet nature, soulful eyes, and so much love to give.

This beautiful girl recently found herself in a shelter through no fault of her own when her owner had to move and was unable to keep her. After spending her entire life in a home, the shelter has been a big adjustment, and Velvet is understandably a little nervous in this unfamiliar environment. But beneath that uncertainty is a gentle, loving dog who is ready to find a family of her own again.

One thing that instantly brings Velvet out of her shell? Other dogs! She absolutely loves canine companionship and lights up when she's around her doggy friends. Having another dog around helps her feel safe, confident, and happy, which is why we are requiring that Velvet be adopted into a home with another friendly resident dog. She truly thrives with a canine companion by her side and would love a built-in best friend to help show her the ropes.

According to her previous owner, Velvet is house trained, making her transition into her new home that much easier. She is also wonderful with other dogs and enjoys their company immensely.

Velvet is looking for a patient, loving family that understands she may need a little time to settle in after all the changes she's experienced. Once she feels secure, we know her sweet personality will continue to blossom.

Velvet is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her age. She's also so loving and cuddly. She would be very excited to be a couch potato and snuggle with her favorite people at the end of an active, busy day. She's also SO smart and engaging - very typical of the Boston Terrier personality. Many would say theTerrier breeds are among the most loyal and engaging in the dog world.

Since Velvet is just a young pup, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome family companion. Velvet will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and practice her positive socialization skills through virtual or in-person positive reinforcement training classes. This training experience will make a profound difference in a dog's behavior and their bonding with their people. It does take time and commitment yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you out in the world with excellent behavior.

We feel very strongly that every dog and their family deserves the opportunity for formal, positive reinforcement training classes. We therefore aren't willing to adopt Velvet out to a home that doesn't choose to offer her this training opportunity. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved virtual or in-person positive reinforcement / force-free trainers in your area.

We're open to Velvet finding her forever home with a retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a silly and super-smart pup. Velvet enjoys her relationships with all humans and dogs, we would prefer however, to place her in a home with older kids only (tail pulling or rough treatment by young kids will create an adult dog that's fearful of children). Older kids can be active participants in a training regimen and friendship that's so important in a dog's development.

Velvet will be up to date on her vetting/vaccinations to be in line with our commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. She has also been spayed in our quest to make a euthanasia-free future in the canine population a reality.

Applications are currently being accepted for this beautiful, very sweet and loyal best friend. An application can be found at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/. If interested, please fill out completely and submit.

**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Velvet please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving puppy. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
