Velma's Story

Meet Velma — Professional Couch Potato & Certified Gentle Giant

Looking for a gentle giant to take up approximately 87% of your couch? Meet Velma!

Velma appears to be a Great Dane, although we can't say for certain whether she's full-blooded or a mix. Whatever her DNA says, she certainly has the classic Dane look—long legs, an impressive presence, a deep booming bark, and a heart as big as she is.

Velma was originally found as a stray before making her way into our rescue. Somewhere along the way, someone cropped her ears, but they now rest softly against her head and give her a unique look that's entirely her own.

When Velma arrived, she tested positive for heartworms. She has now successfully COMPLETED heartworm treatment and is officially ready to find her forever home!

And after everything she's been through, Velma has decided that the good life suits her just fine.

This big girl is sweet, low-energy, house-trained, and an accomplished couch napper. Her ideal afternoon involves finding a comfortable spot, stretching those ridiculously long legs out, and snoozing near her favorite people.

Velma is very much a "Velcro dog." She loves being near her foster and following along with whatever is happening—even if what's happening is absolutely nothing. Despite loving her people, she's also completely comfortable being left home alone.

She does well with other dogs and especially seems to enjoy puppies and smaller canine friends. Velma prefers calm, respectful companions and isn't a fan of loud, overly pushy dogs invading her personal bubble.

Overall, Velma is looking for a peaceful home where she can continue living the life she was clearly meant for: loved, comfortable, and preferably provided with a couch.

Velma is spayed, fully vetted, has completed heartworm treatment, and is ready for adoption.

Whether she's a full Great Dane or a Great Dane mix, one thing is certain: Velma is gentle, loyal, affectionate, wonderfully goofy, and very ready to become someone's oversized best friend.

Adoption fee: $300

Apply to adopt:
https://rubiesandrogues.com/pages/placement-application

Adoption fee includes vetting through our program.
