Velcro aka Velly's Story

Hi, I'm Velly. I'm a 2½-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound, and I've been waiting almost 2 years for my forever family. That's a long time for any dog.

My name is Velly because I'm a true "Velcro dog." If you're sitting down, chances are I'll be right beside you. If you're watching TV, I'll happily cuddle up next to you. Being close to my people is my favorite thing in the world.

My foster mom says I'm sweet, silly, affectionate, and incredibly loyal.
I'm house-trained, ride great in the car, and I love running around the yard, exploring, splashing in water, and playing ball. I'm also learning leash skills and making great progress every day.

Like many rescue dogs, I've had to learn that the world can be a safe place. Loud noises and new situations can make me nervous at first, but with patience and encouragement, I settle in nicely. I take a daily fluoxetine pill with my food (which I happily gobble up!) that helps me feel more confident and allows me to relax and enjoy being a dog.

I would likely do best as an only dog. I don't dislike other dogs, but sometimes I get overstimulated and still need help navigating social situations. I've successfully lived with other dogs before, and with the right match and an experienced owner, that could be possible again. And I don't do well with cats, so honestly, I would love to have my people all to myself! I would be the best girl!

I don't enjoy being crated, but I'm trustworthy in the house when left with toys, puzzles, and things to keep my busy hound brain occupied.

What I really want is a family.
A family to take me on walks.
A family to throw my ball.
A family to cuddle with at the end of the day.
A family to finally call my own.
After nearly two years in rescue, we know my person is out there somewhere. Maybe they just haven't seen me yet.

I would really love to join a family this summer, so we can be active and have fun together. If interested, please contact HoundSong Rescue!

Adoption Fee: $300
Complete the HoundSong Rescue adoption application:
https://houndsong.com/adoptapp.php
No meet and greets will be scheduled without the completion and approval of an adoption application. All our dogs live in foster homes, so a meet and greet will have to be scheduled with the foster family.

HoundSong Rescue dogs are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. HoundSong Rescue also offers Fi Collars for an additional $100 fee. Fi Collars are GPS collars with many other features we find valuable when owning a hound. Our amazing adoption coordinators will happily answer any questions you have in regards to the Fi Collar and the dog you are interested in adopting.

Pet Friendly Services of Indiana provides grant funding, in the form of free discount coupons, to help shelters and rescue groups spay/neuter cats and dogs in our care through the Pet Friendly Plate Program.
