Ursula - Special Needs's Story
Ursula is a 7 year old Great Dane female who is mostly white in color with a black beauty mark on her face and she is looking for a very special forever home. Her former owners could not afford her recent tail amputation surgery which was necessary due to happy tail and she was in need of other veterinarian care. She is deaf and was placed with Big Dogs Huge Paws because of our wide adoption base giving her the best chance to find a home with Giant Breed experience and one knowledgeable or willing to work with a dog with hearing loss. For dogs with hearing loss, the use of consistent hand gestures for commands like "come," "sit," or "stay," is best for communication. Use of vibration signals can also help - Gently stomp your foot on the floor to send a vibration, allowing the dog to feel your approach and preventing startling. Ursula was trained with hand signals and only a few of the signals were passed on. She knows the sign for Come and Outside. Her foster family will be working to teach her the other signs that will help. Ursula is trustworthy with free roam, has been allowed on furniture and so far is not a fan of car rides. She lived with two pit bulls and a 2 year old child in her previous home so she is great with dogs and kids. Do you have a soft spot in your heart for a senior girl who needs an understanding and motivated family to give her that retirement life of leisure?
