Tye's Story

Tye is living in a foster home. Please submit an application from our website and email dogs@heartlandanimalshelter.org to see if you're a match!

Scroll through his pictures to see his cute videos!

Tye Guy is so special. His history with us dates way back to October 2021, when we first met Tye at Chicago Animal Care and Control. At only one year old, he had just lost his home, where he had been since he was a puppy. His family(which included kids) stated that they no longer had time for him. He pulled at our heart strings, and we were so happy when he was shortly adopted after he became a Heartland dog.
Sadly, a few years later, Tye's adoptive family no longer felt like they could properly care for Tye, so they made the difficult decision to return him back to Heartland.

Tye is now about 5 years old, and the same precious boy that we met and loved back then. His love for toys sure is still true! Tye quickly found the toy bin at Heartland, and would bring his volunteers right to it - only to jump in himself to retrieve his favorite squeaky ball. He spent a little while at the shelter, but then moved to a foster home, with one of our regular fosters and their dog, who can be a little picky about her dog friends. Tye is great with her! His foster says "Our dog (who is super anxious) was comfortable with him almost immediately, and behaves with him like how she behaves with her oldest dog friends. He walks with her great, they curl up next to each other, etc." Tye is not really into the rough-and-rowdy play that many of the younger dogs enjoy, but he's the perfect "co-exister" for a similar dog. He also previously lived with a cat, and would enjoy being an "only pet" as well. As long as there are plenty of toys, and he can have his "security blanket." He will grab plush blankets to just suck on or hold in his mouth. It is really sweet to see.

Tye is doing great in his foster home, they really only have good things to say about him. He loves his crate, but also can be trusted to free roam. His fosters can tell how much he loves kids (he previously lived with several!) because when they walk him, he seems to want to meet them whenever they go on a walk or a car ride. Here is what his fosters have to say about him:
"Tye (or Tye Guy or Tye Tye, as he's known to his friends) is a treasure! He is loving, cuddly, gentle, and a good listener. He loves going for walks and every new person or dog he meets is a new friend! He also adores car rides, but is mostly just happy to be with his humans wherever they are. He enjoys napping during the day, especially if there is a sun patch to be found, and is content to hang out with everyone at night, maybe with a chew toy, but mostly just cuddled on the couch as part of the pack. He is housebroken and loves chewing up toys and is especially adorable when he is carrying around his security blanket(s) or snuggling with them."

Tye is such a good boy, who has lost his home twice now, but still remains as loyal and loving as ever. We hope you ask about him today!

Tye's adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
