Tucker's Story

***If you are interested in adopting Tucker, please directly email glgrr2003@gmail.com to learn more about his adoption process. Inquiries sent through Petfinder will not be checked.***

Say hello to Tucker! He was born on 3-12-25, so he is just over a year old. Tucker is a 61lb bundle of joy! Overall, he is very well behaved for his age. He sits on command, "kennels up" when he needs to be crated, and walks fairly well on a leash with the aid of a gentle leader. Tucker loves the outdoors! He has been to he lake once and put his feet in, but because of the weather, we have not had the chance to acclimate him to the lake. In time and with proper guidance, we think he would love the water! He loves to "fetch" but has yet to learn how to "give" when retrieving back to you. We are working on that.

While he is doing very well, I would not totally trust him to be loose in the house when you are gone. He has been caught counter surfing so that will have to be monitored and corrected. Know that he will be so happy to see you when you return home! A kong with frozen peanut butter or yogurt put in the crate with him while you are away seems to keep him busy until he needs to take a nap. He does well in his crate in our bedroom and does sleep there at night. He may be close to transitioning out of the crate at night, but I would give him time to acclimate to your home before trying that.

Tucker loves to be with his people and can be a velcro dog if you let him. However, he is wary of new people. With proper introduction and giving him some space, he will become your best friend in no time flat. Tucker is very "prey driven" and needs more training on "leave it." With this, a home with no cats is required. He startles easily and will bark and sometimes growl. He will need continued socialization training. He would do well with an experienced dog family who would be committed to keep up/enroll him in training classes.

Tucker loves his doggie sibling (who thinks he is annoying because he is older) and likes to play with him. Tucker could go to a home with a doggie sibling if the conditions were right or he can be an only dog. Given that he startles easily, children in the home should be 10+ years old and familiar with dogs. Tucker would do well in a physically fenced yard with locked gates as he knows how to open and close them. He will not be eligible to go to a home with an invisible/electric fence. Other types of containment will be considered.

Since getting Tucker, we have been working on socialization, manners, and people etiquette. We need to be sure that in his new home these things will be continued in training. He has come a long way and has been successful. With the right family, he will be such a great addition! All in all, Tucker has been a great dog to have in our home.

Tucker is being fostered in the Lake Orion, MI area. Any adopter must reside in Michigan, Northern Indiana, Northern Illinois or Northern Ohio. Tucker has a $550 adoption fee. He is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, has had a fecal test, has been microchipped and looked over by a vet.

***If you are interested in adopting Tucker, please directly email glgrr2003@gmail.com to learn more about his adoption process. Great Lakes Golden Retriever Rescue's Adoption Policy
We have Goldens in foster homes throughout the State of Michigan; we do not have a facility in Grand Rapids. Once you fill out the pre-application, on our website, you will be sent a detailed form with our entire adoption process and policies. Once you read that and decide if you would like to move forward, you will have to pay a $20 application fee. After those two steps are complete, you will be given a password to our online application. You can then complete the online application and once it is received, it will be assigned to an interviewer. The interviewer will check vet references and contact you within seven business days. Once your application is approved, the interviewer will send you a roster of our available Goldens via e-mail. Your interviewer will be there to answer any questions and aid in any way that they can. Great Lakes does not post all of our available Goldens on this website or Petfinder. We first offer available Goldens to our approved applicants. When you adopt a Golden from Great Lakes, your Golden will have been examined by a veterinarian, spayed or neutered, updated on necessary vaccines and heartworm and fecal checked. Goldens from 2 months to 12 months old have an adoption fee of $700. Goldens aged 1 to 5 years old have an adoption fee of $550. Goldens aged 6 to 9 years of have an adoption fee of $400. Goldens that are aged 10 years and older are $200. When you adopt a Golden from Great Lakes your Golden will have been spayed or neutered, up to date on necessary vaccines, and looked over by a vet. Please note that it is extremely rare that we get puppies under 6 months of age, and we do not have a waiting list.
