Tucker's Story

Hi… I’m Tucker.

I’m three years old, 100 pounds of Labrador/Great Dane love, and I carry a heart that feels everything — the good and the bad — a little too deeply.

Not long ago, I was sitting in a shelter kennel, counting the final moments I thought I had left. The people walked past my door, and every time I hoped maybe someone would stop. That I’d matter to someone. But no one came… not until the very last possible second.

Someone had heard about my troubles. And ever since, all I’ve wanted is to make sure no one ever regrets saving me.

I may be big, but I try so hard to be gentle. I’ve got perfect house manners — I never touch what isn’t mine, and I love learning. I sit beautifully when you ask. I know how to lay down. I can follow English words and hand signals like it’s second nature. My foster mom says I’m one of the smartest boys she’s ever met. I hope that means something.

I’d give anything to keep learning more… new tricks, training games, anything that makes you proud. I love that feeling — the feeling of pleasing someone. Maybe because I spent so long wondering if I ever could.

I adore stuffed toys, maybe more than I should. They make me wiggle with happiness. And oh — my ball! Toss it in the air and I’ll leap to catch it like the world’s biggest, goofiest athlete. But the funniest part? When I get tired, I’ll lay down and still catch it… over and over again. My foster mom laughs, and for a moment, everything feels perfect.

People say my eyes are soulful. Maybe that’s because they’ve seen sadness… but they’re also full of hope. Every time someone looks at me kindly, I feel that warm spark that says maybe this time, someone will stay.

I’m wonderful on a leash — especially with my new harness. Something about it makes me feel calmer, braver, almost magical. If squirrels or bunnies try to tempt me into mischief, I will need someone with a strong grip and a firm voice. There is just something about squirrels and bunnies that entice me.

I being close to my person. I’m polite with other dogs I meet on walks, and gentle with the two tiny ones in my foster home… but honestly? Deep down, I dream of being someone’s one and only. Not because I wouldn't mind another large dog to be friends with — but because my heart is so big, it wants to give everything to my person. I want to be your whole world. And I’d you would be mine.

I love following my person from room to room, quietly laying at your feet, resting my head nearby just to feel safe. I like sitting in the yard watching the wind move through the trees, scanning for squirrels like a noble guardian. I know how to sit. How to shake. I’ll even go nap in my crate with the door open, just because it feels familiar. Car rides? I’d never say no. I’m a great passenger, hoping each ride leads me closer to forever.

But here’s the quiet truth —
I’ve been waiting a long time.
Longer than a dog who loves this deeply should ever wait.

I don’t just want a home.
I want my home… the last one, the real one.

The place where no one walks past me. The place where I’m chosen every day.
If you have room in your heart for a gentle giant with soft brown eyes, a silly love for stuffed toys, and a soul that only wants to learn, love, and belong…

Please come for me.

I’m ready.
I’m so ready.

Love,
Tucker

If you would like to meet your new best friend, contact the Adoption Coordinator at info@almosthometn.org or 865-236-0830. To fill out an application, go to www.almosthometn.org. If you cannot get it to work, let us know and we will email it to you in a different format.

Unless otherwise noted, all Almost Home cats are healthy, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, and flea & tick preventative.

Almost Home Animal Rescue's Adoption Policy

Adopting a friend:
The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography.

What you need to do to adopt:
If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done.

Meet & Greets:
An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.
ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for a cat is $85.
The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets.
The adoption fee for a dog is $200.
The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets.
Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced.
The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer.
We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees. Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee. Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need.
