Meet Troopa!

This hound mix is estimated to be around 1 year old. He's neutered, up to date on vaccines, and all ready to leave the shelter for his perfect forever home.

Troopa came to HSoP several months ago, and was extremely malnourished upon intake. Through weeks of slow and steady care, Troopa safely gained back the healthy weight he needed to thrive. Now as happy and healthy as any pup we've ever known, Troopa is ready to begin his new life with a new best friend at his side.

He's been through a lot in his short life, and it doesn't seem like Troopa has received much training, if any. He has a habit of jumping on people to get their attention. This is something we commonly see with shelter dogs, and would likely be much easier to correct inside a home.

Another thing Troopa struggles with is the tendency to bite or be "mouthy". He doesn't mean to hurt when he does this, instead it seems like another way for him to try and get attention. Troopa responds well to being told "no" when he forgets his manners. This is something that could very likely be trained away in a home environment.

The main thing Troopa needs is a patient and understanding owner. He needs someone to stay by his side as he works through some long-held habits, someone he can build trust in and look to for reassurance. Troopa is an incredibly smart dog. He does well on a leash and picks up commands quickly. The sooner he can move into a warm and comfortable home of his own, the sooner he can flourish into the amazing dog we know he can be.

Troopa has a fair bit of energy and will need regular exercise in his future home. We aren't sure how he would do around cats or other dogs. We do offer a seven-day foster period with each adoption, and Troopa will be required to meet any other dogs in the home prior to leaving HSoP.

Our dog kennels are open from 1:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday, and our canine adoption fee is $135. Troopa will leave HSoP with a microchip containing his new owner's information.
