Tootsie (VA)'s Story

Meet Tootsie, a sweet and very affectionate 20 lb., 8 year-old rattie-jack mix. Tootsie has come into her own in foster care, showing her smarts, her playfulness, her loyalty, and her extremely loving nature. She loves daily leash walks and exploring the neighborhood and nearby park trails. She dances enthusiastically when we get ready to go out and jumps in the car as soon as foster mom opens the door. She loves to go along for the ride, and she is well-behaved when she has come into various stores with foster mom.

Tootsie is housebroken on a schedule and is learning to signal when she needs to go out. She apparently wasn't used to potty on leash, and while she's been learning to do that she's still most comfortable and reliable taking care of business in a fenced yard. She's cautiously friendly for the first moments in meeting a stranger but she warms up quickly, wagging her tail. She does warn foster mom if someone approaches the house or comes up the walk. She gets along nicely with her foster bro, inviting him to play. She's interested in other dogs we see on our walks and everyone sniffs nicely.

Tootsie had been left alone for quite a while before rescue so she's been very attached to foster mom, and she'll do best in a home where her people are around most of the time. She wants to be on your lap or next to you on the couch the minute you sit down, and she snuggles in at night, quiet as a mouse and just happy to be next to foster mom.
