Tommy - URGENT - LONGTIME RESIDENT's Story
URGENT! Tommy has been a the shelter for over 1 month. He needs a home ASAP!

Tommy is an 11-month-old Australian Cattle Dog mix currently being held at the Kern County Animal Services - Bakersfield Shelter. He has been at the shelter since April 30, 2026 and is ready for his new home.

Shelter staff and volunteers describe Tommy as:

* Affectionate and cuddly
* Ready for an adventure
* Chill in public spaces
* Social with other dogs
* A great companion
* Great in the car
* Easygoing and mellow
* Possibly potty trained

One of his fans at the shelter had this to say about him:

"Tommy is full of energy and one of the happiest little guys you'll ever meet. Like many young dogs, he builds up energy from being in a kennel all day, and he really needs a chance to get out and enjoy life. When I take him to the play yard, he has an absolute blast running around and getting his zoomies out."

Please note: It is recommended that Tommy go to a home with older children due to his energetic nature.

Photos and information above courtesy of Kern County Animals Services and @brandibeth_public. The shelter has more than 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs and puppies are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.

HOW TO ADOPT, RESCUE OR FOSTER
Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to understaffing. The dogs are in Bakersfield, not Thousand Oaks.

HOW TO CONTACT CAPS
https://caps-web.org/contact
No phone calls, please. Please use our contact form or reach out to us through Petfinder.

FOSTER HOMES
Foster homes must be in Kern County.

TRANSPORT
CAPS can facilitate transportation if you are on the West Coast. Adopters are responsible for transport fees.
