Our Mission
Founded in 1992, the Companion Animal Protection Society (CAPS) is the only national nonprofit dedicated exclusively to protecting companion animals from cruelty in pet shops and puppy/kitten mills. CAPS addresses animal suffering through investigations, outreach, legislation, legal advocacy, consumer assistance, shelter reform and rescue.
Adoption Policy
We screen adopters by asking them about their experience with dogs, especially large breed dogs and specific dog breeds. Requirements include secure fenced yards, having access to indoor and outdoors and regular exercise. Some dogs come with 6 obedience lessons paid for by a volunteer, and we provide guidance and advice on decompression and introducing a new animal to a household.
