Our Mission
Founded in 1992, the Companion Animal Protection Society (CAPS) is the only national nonprofit dedicated exclusively to protecting companion animals from cruelty in pet shops and puppy/kitten mills. CAPS addresses animal suffering through investigations, outreach, legislation, legal advocacy, consumer assistance, rescue, and shelter reform.
Adoption Policy
CAPS screens adopters by asking them about their experience with dogs, especially large breed dogs and specific dog breeds. Requirements include having secure fenced yards, allowing access to indoors and outdoors, and providing regular exercise. CAPS offers guidance and advice on decompression and introducing a new animal to a household.
