Meet Toby 2.0

If I look familiar to you, there is a reason for that. I have been here before but now I am back in an even better version of me. Hi! My name is Toby. I am a 2 year old lab retriever mix and weigh in at around 32 lbs. If you like Labs but don't have the space for a full-size version, I am the perfect size. When I was here before, I had some problems. I had luxating patellas (aka wobbly kneecaps). Orthopedic surgery is expensive so that caused some people to shy away from adopting me. The good news is that now my orthopedic problems are over. I have had surgery to stabilize both kneecaps and am better than new! I can run, jump and do my happy dance pain-free. Aside from being a really handsome guy, I am sweet and love other dogs. While I love going for walks, I am also quite content to snuggle on the couch with my favorite people or a dog buddy or lie in the grass and soak up the sun. I had a lousy childhood so I have some trust issues. If you take your time with me and are patient, I will show you just what a super, loving guy I can be. It really doesn't take me very long. My ideal home would be one with a routine. No hectic lifestyles for me please. All that coming and going and never knowing what to expect next makes me feel a little insecure. I prefer a calm, relaxed lifestyle . I have had some professional training and have learned to sit, stay, lie down and come when I am called. I also go to my mat when told. There are still some things I need to work on though. I walk pretty well on a harness but occasionally try to chase passing cars/trucks, kids on bikes and joggers. With continued training I can learn not to do that. I like kids but would probably do best with older kids who are not always running around squealing. That stuff over-stimulates me and I can get barky and mouthy. I am just a kid myself so when others are acting wild, I can be a wild child too.
I have excellent house manners. I don't chew things up, have accidents or get into things. You can leave me alone all day and return to your house secure in the knowledge that it will be the way you left it. Just want to add that I think I would love going to doggy daycare if that is an option.
Neutered, up to date on all vaccines, negative for Heartworm and Lyme disease and microchipped, I am fully equipped and ready to hit the road. I have been waiting patiently for my forever family. Please don't make me wait much longer. Come meet me. To know me is to love me. Hope to see you soon.

NOTE: Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.
