TITAN 's Story

Breed French Bulldogs
Age 2-5 yrs
Adoption Fee $250
weight 29 lbs

Meet Titan — a beautiful boy estimated to be between 2–5 years old.

Titan’s story began in a heartbreaking way. He was abandoned at an animal shelter in a soft (fabric) crate, which he managed to escape. A few hours later, animal control found him hiding in one of their carports.
He was covered in infected bite wounds, clearly the result of a serious attack.

He had been left with medication, and we later learned that he likely came from a home where another dog had attacked him. The previous owner even contacted us about taking Titan, but instead of following proper surrender procedures, he was abandoned.

Despite everything he had been through, we knew Titan deserved a second chance. We stepped in to ensure he wouldn’t be euthanized and gave him the care he needed.

Since then, Titan has been seen by our veterinarian. His medication was adjusted, and we’ve used specialized treatments to help speed up his healing. With time, patience, and lots of love, he has made a remarkable recovery.

Today, Titan is a much happier dog. He loves treats, enjoys going on walks, and has a great time playing with toys. Most of all, he truly enjoys spending time with our volunteers and being surrounded by people who care about him. Since then, he has been tested with larger dogs, and he does not do well. So, he either needs to be an only dog or smaller breed dogs only.

Titan did develop a hematoma that has since turned into what’s known as “cauliflower ear.” According to our vet, there is no remaining fluid—only scar tissue—so no further treatment is needed currently.

A “cauliflower ear” in dogs is a swollen, disfigured pinna (outer ear flap) caused by trauma or infection, leading to a crinkled appearance. It occurs when an ear hematoma (fluid buildup between the cartilage and skin) is poorly treated or left untreated, permanently altering the ear’s shape and causing a crinkled cauliflower-like appearance.

Here’s what that means going forward:
1. No reversal in most cases
• Once scar tissue forms, the ear won’t return to its original shape without surgical intervention.
• Even with surgery, cosmetic correction is uncommon and usually not recommended unless there’s a medical reason.
2. Usually not painful anymore
• The painful phase is during the active hematoma or infection.
• If Titan is acting normal (enjoying treats, walks, social time), that’s a very good sign he’s comfortable.
3. Watch for ongoing ear health
Dogs with cauliflower ear can be more prone to issues like:
• Reduced airflow in the ear
• Wax buildup
• Recurring infections
So, it’s helpful to:
• Check his ears regularly for redness, odor, or discharge
• Keep them clean (with vet-approved cleaner)
• Follow up quickly if you notice scratching or head shaking

Breed French Bulldogs
Age 2-5 yrs
Adoption Fee $250
weight 29 lbs

Currently ARF does not adopt out of state.

How to Adopt a Dog from ARF
Animal Rescue of Fresno is a Volunteer Managed & Operated Dog Rescue.
We are available by Appointment Only.
Adoptions begin with an Approved Application.
You can find the application on our website at www.arf-fresno.com

Application can be found in the drop-down menu above, click "ADOPT"
Mobile users click three lines at top of page to see "ADOPT"
Business Hours: By Appointment Only

We will review each submitted application, then contact the approved adopter via email.
