Tillman's Story
HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by appointment. To schedule a time to meet him, please email meetme@arl-iowa.org.

---

- Came from a situation where he did not get the socialization and exposure to the world that dogs typically get from a young age. Because of this, he may struggle with new situations, show uncertainty with novel everyday objects, and need help understanding leashes and other things

- While he arrived very shy and uncertain about being touched, he has been making progress in his foster home every day and becoming more trusting; will now come up to his foster family for pets and snuggles and loves sleeping in bed with his people!

- Totally wants to be a lap dog

- Getting more and more social every day, can be hesitant around strangers at first but warms up with time

- Loves chew toys, balls and tug toys; very motivated by food and treats

- Has made great progress on a leash while in his foster home and they say he is now great at it and will even bring them his leash when he wants to go on a walk!

- Knows sit and is working on mastering come and stay

- Has mastered the doggy door in his foster home and sometimes uses it to go outside and go potty, although he may also use puppy pads; will need help from his new family to get to 100% on potty training

- Rides nicely in the car

- Foster family says he can sleep through the night in his kennel

- Can still be timid around loud sounds, but

- Loves and admires the adult dog in his foster home and follows them around everywhere; has done best with a "helper" dog when it comes to learning that people can be OK, and we highly recommend that he go to a home with another dog

- May not do well in a busy home with young children

All adoptable dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations (rabies and DA2PPV as appropriate for their age)

The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 41.2lbs Age: 0yrs 9mths 1wks Animal has been Neutered
