Meet Tiki **Adoption Fee Waived**

Meet Tiki!

Name: Tiki

Nicknames: Teek, Tiki Bear, Bear, Little Bear, Teekers, Teeks

Profession: Public relations....I often pass the time by spreading the love! I love greeting my foster people when they enter a room/house and giving hugs! I will pull you in and reach to the center of your heart with my big doe eyes. I can occasionally be too forward with people and have been told that I need to work on my jumping/exuberance in my salutations, apparently not everyone wants to pet and be loved all over by me all of the time....but you know, once we lock eyes it's like game on! I'm working on it though and will definitely need help in the future from my forever family with continuing to learn about proper social skills with humans - I mean you are different than us canines and you can't expect me to know everything! I can be very sensitive at times and definitely want my forever people to know this as harsher tones/stern voices make me retreat within myself.

Social experiences (dogs/cats): I can occasionally be a little too forward when it comes to the other critters that I have met thus far since arriving with the rescue. I would prefer to live in a house without any of those cat things...I don't always entirely understand them and when they run I often want to chase them but everyone keeps telling me that this isn't the right choice but I don't really understand the other options!

Overall I have enjoyed the company of the other canine friends that I have had the opportunity to meet here in Minnesota but I would prefer slow and controlled introductions to start. I'm not always the most congenial towards dogs or cats when it comes to seeing through a crate - and this can be true for when I am standing on either side of the crate door (if I'm the one in or out of the crate that is). I very much enjoy playing, running, and chasing the other canine friends I have made thus far and look forward to expanding my social network in the future!

House rules: My canine friends and I are crated when my foster mom is gone and she has mentioned that this would be a good routine for my new family to stick with until we truly get to know one another. I like to be on the furniture but also really enjoy sleeping on my foster home's dog beds as well! My foster mom said that I can be both snuggle and more distant at times...one night she was entertaining the idea of seeing if I wanted to snuggle in bed with her but I seemed more interested in sleeping under the bed where one of my foster brothers often sleeps (the bed is on risers so we fit underneath quite easily!). I am completely crate trained (except for a couple accidents in the transition period upon arriving to Minnesota/my foster home) and do well with a blanket and nylabone or benebone for some chewing action if I'd like...and have never touched my blanket thus far which makes my foster mom quite happy! I am still working on showing my foster mom when I have to go to the bathroom so she said it's best that we keep my free roam in the house to a limited area while we are still getting to know one another's routines/habits...she also mentioned that I may have a bit of a fascination with the water bowl so we are trying to work on the understanding that it doesn't all have to be drank at one time! I have been showing some issues with getting car sick recently so my foster mom said that we are gonna try to start working on desensitization with some little car trips first....she mentioned some other helpful tips but I can't remember what they all were but she did say that she would be more than happy to send this information on to my new family when that time comes.

Commands: Now that I have finally settled into my foster home and become acquainted with my foster mom and my other canine housemates I have been told that we are going to be working a little more seriously on my learning skills! We know that I know my name and how to sit but haven't really proofed or tested either of these in distracted situations or for duration. My foster mom said that I also kennel up really well and have done great in both a plastic vary crate as well as a wire crate.
