Tiana's Story

Meet Tiana — the dog who doesn’t really do “instant best friend”… but absolutely does “loyal best friend for life”

Tiana is a 1–2 year old, 73 lb Rottweiler with a soft heart and a cautious way of meeting the world. At our Petsmart events or meet-and-greets, she may seem shy or slow to engage with strangers—and that’s often what people see first.

But what you don’t see in those moments is who she really is once she feels safe.
In a calm home, Tiana warms up quickly—she settled into her foster home in about a day. Not weeks. Not months. Once she understands she’s safe, her personality comes out beautifully: affectionate, goofy, cuddly, and deeply loyal.

At events, she may avoid being touched by strangers or bark/back away if someone reaches for her too quickly. She is not "aggressive" and has never bitten, but she is sensitive and needs space to approach people on her own terms. She’ll often happily take treats from strangers—but she’s not going to be everyone’s instant best friend in a busy setting.

Because of this, Tiana needs an adopter who will advocate for her in public and around strangers—someone comfortable stepping in and saying, “She needs space,” or “Let her come to you.” This is a big part of setting her up for success. She is telling people she is uncomfortable in the only way she knows how. Our goal is to make sure she is never put in situations where she feels she has to react, by matching her with the right home and the right handler.

What she needs is someone who understands dogs like her: willing to look past first impressions, trust the process, and know that her real personality shows up once she’s home and comfortable.

With her foster family, she is sweet, affectionate, and loves being close. She is kennel trained, housetrained, good with medium to large dogs (plays a bit wild for small dogs/cats), and would love a fenced yard. She is strong on leash, especially when excited about seeing a bird haha, so she isn't a dog your 10 year old will be taking on a walk. She has been fine with older kids....probably 12+ ideally, just so they are respectful when shes nervous.

Tiana isn’t the dog who runs up to everyone. She’s the dog who quietly decides you’re safe… and then chooses you completely.

Apply at adoptapal.org/adopt to meet her!

Located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Out-of-State applications are accepted for an additional fee, and all of that information can be found on the website.

Tiana is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and comes with a month of free pet insurance. Her adoption fee is $500.
