Meet Thyra, a 6-month-old Italian Greyhound-Lab mix with a gentle heart and a big need for understanding. Before coming to us, she had never left her home, so the world is still very new and overwhelming to her. Despite that, she has shown us just how sweet, affectionate, and loving she can be with the adults she trusts.<br/><br/>Thyra is scared of children and would be most comfortable in an adult-only home. She's tolerant around other dogs but doesn't really enjoy their company, so she may thrive as an only dog-or with a calm dog who won't mind her preference for space. Her favorite thing in the world is snuggling, and carrying around her favorite soft dog toys, once she feels safe, she'll happily curl up with you for nap time and quiet companionship. Thyra's foster states she loves to chew toys, run around her backyard, and go on medium-to-long walks! When she is feeling like you just are not giving your whoooole attention to her, Miss Thyra will roll over onto her back so she can request all of the belly rubs she can get. <br/><br/>Because she missed out on early socialization, Thyra is still learning how to navigate new environments and experiences. She'll need patient adopters committed to helping her build confidence through gentle, positive behavior modification. With consistency, support, and a calm home, Thyra will blossom into the devoted, cuddly companion she's meant to be.<br/><br/>Ready to Adopt?<br/><br/>You have two options:<br/><br/>#1- VISIT IN PERSON<br/>Come during our open adoption hours: Tuesday - Saturday,12:30 - 3:00pm. You'll be able to meet available dogs in the shelter.<br/>(Dogs in foster care are not available for in-person visits.)<br/><br/>#2- ADOPT REMOTELY OR PLACE A 24-HOUR HOLD**<br/>If you're ready to adopt without meeting the dog first, or you'd like to place a non-refundable $25 hold to reserve a dog for 24 hours, just call or email us: (413) 781-4000 x 1 springfield@dakinhumane.org. We are often helping other clients when you call, but we return voicemails and emails within 24 hours.<br/><br/>**Holds are not available for puppies under six months, on Saturdays, or during adoption events.<br/>--------------------------------------------<br/>All adult dog adoption fees include;<br/>-spay/neuter<br/>-rabies and kennel cough vaccinations<br/>- heartworm test<br/>-current parvo/distemper vaccines (may need additional boosters with your veterinarian)<br/>-microchip implanted & registered to adopter<br/>-treatment of fleas & ticks<br/>-veterinary exam and health certificate at Dakin<br/>-free vet exam within 30 days of adoption with participating veterinarians<br/>Most pets have also received other medical care while with us. Your veterinarian may recommend additional health care for your pet.
