Tessa's Story

Tessa is a gorgeous black and tan coonhound who wandered up hungry and scared just days before Thanksgiving, hoping someone might notice her. Thankfully someone did, and it didn't take long for her gentle, friendly personality to come through.<br/><br/>In foster, she's proven to be a total love bug. Tessa is warm, affectionate, and happiest being close to her people, soaking up attention. She is a perfect mix of sweetness and fun, and she really enjoys having a dog friend around to play with. A hound through and through, she has also taken a strong interest in the backyard squirrel situation and takes her treeing duties very seriously, so her prey drive is something to keep in mind. Families with chickens would not be a good match for her- unless of course you no longer want to have chickens 😬<br/><br/>Tessa is still working on crate training and settling into a routine, and she's continuing to make steady progress. She would do best in a home where someone has the time to spend with her to keep up that progress and help her keep building confidence.

We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always try to select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs and try to find the best match for both dog and human. We leave a dog’s profile online until either it has been adopted, or has received several applications. We are a non-profit organization that spends our adoption fees and donations on vaccinations, surgeries, various medical tests, medicines, food and supplies needed by our dogs. Our fees do not cover the overall expenses incurred by the care of our dogs, but they do help defray the costs involved. We thank you for your support.
