Taylor Swift's Story

Here is what Taylor Swift's foster has to say about her!

Description
Personality: She's an incredibly sweet dog who enjoys cuddles. A lot of times, her favorite position is partially lying on you, but she's also temperature-sensitive and will sometimes just want to hang out nearby. She's definitely the type to follow the humans around from room to room.

While she is a napper, she can get prone to puppy-like zoomies occasionally and has periods of overall higher activity. Usually, these correspond to meal times. She'll try to get your attention early in the morning before breakfast and around dinner time. She'll need at least some activity throughout the day to make sure she settles down at night. However, she is content to nap while the humans are out of the house. No signs of any destructive behavior there, and no signs of digging behavior, though she has chewed her way through several stuffed toys. She also doesn't table surf or generally get into things she shouldn't.

She's a complete sweetheart to me and my husband (her tail waggles constantly, oftentimes, making a thwump, thwump, thwump noise from hitting the floor or wall) and doesn't react badly to the vacuum, blender, or doorknob. However, she will bark or growl a bit if she spots strangers in the house. She doesn't try to engage with them or harm them, and we are actively trying to socialize her a bit more. When someone came to fix our storm door, she was quite happy and quiet while being kept in a separate room, even if she clearly knew someone was there.

She's perfectly fine with me touching her mouth (or pulling up her lip to see her teeth), having me wipe down her privates if they've gotten dirty, and petting or cleaning her. She doesn't like having her nails grinded down, but she's not aggressive when it's happening. She's also fine with me taking toys directly out of her mouth and has learned to sit before getting any high-value treats. She'll take things like bones directly from my fingers gently.

Food/Potty Habits: We currently have her on 3.5 cups of food a day (1.5 for breakfast and 2 for dinner, at 6:30 AM and 6:30 PM, respectively). We've found it is best to feed her via Kong -- if she gets food in a bowl (even a slow-feeder bowl), she'll inhale it too quickly and start coughing, and the Kong also gives her stimulation/exercise, which is helpful. We originally had her on 1.5 cups for dinner, but we found slightly more food keeps her from waking us up too early in the morning.

The Orrens food we originally got from the shelter seemed to upset her stomach. Once we switched her to high-protein Purina, her stomach evened out. She still poops several times a day, but it's much more solid now. FYI - She might need to be bribed a bit to go outside when it's cold, and she prefers to poop near at least one wall or fence.

Her stomach has also been fine with dog ice cream (peanut butter and pumpkin flavors), Blue dental sticks, salmon oil (to help her skin and coat), and various kinds of chicken-based treats.

She's gotten pretty well house-trained. I work from home, so I can let her out often, but she hasn't had an accident in weeks and can make it through the night fine. She does have a tendency to go on our deck (especially when it's snowy out and she doesn't want to venture out further), but inside, she's been good. I would make sure she gets extra outside time if there are guests over and right after she's eaten, though."
