Taco's Story

Meet Taco!

Taco is a 6-year-old, 44-pound good boy who proves that sometimes the best things in life come wrapped in a tortilla... or in this case, a wagging tail. Taco 'bout a great dog!

Taco walks okay on leash, showing intermittent mild to moderate pulling. He sometimes seems unsure about picking a pace, suggesting he may not have had much leash experience before the shelter. With a little patience and practice, he's sure to gain confidence.

He is a bit hesitant about getting into the car at first and usually needs a boost inside. Once he's in, he likes to investigate every nook and cranny-especially if there might be food or treats involved-so being tethered helps keep his curiosity in check. He can be a little anxious at the start of a ride, but he settles down with time.

When given space to explore, Taco enjoys roaming around at his own pace. He has little spurts of energy but is mostly a low-to-medium energy kind of guy who prefers wandering, sniffing, and checking things out. He occasionally comes over for treats or affection, which are two of his favorite things.

Toys don't seem to interest him much, but treats absolutely do. Taco is very food motivated and knows "sit," though he sometimes needs a little encouragement to get there. His love of snacks will make training a fun and rewarding experience.

Once Taco warms up, his affectionate side really shines. He's incredibly sweet and loves being close to his person-so much so that he'll happily crawl right into your lap if you let him.

Taco also does well during bath time, handling it like a champ and making everyone proud. Through it all, he remains a super sweet, easygoing boy who just wants a little patience, kindness, and a comfy place to call home.

As always, we strongly recommend that resident dogs meet any new potential canine family members. If bringing a resident dog for a dog to dog test, please bring proof of Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccines.

To meet your new pet, come to Guilford County Animal Services between 12 and 4 any day except Tuesday!
