Sylvia's Story

Fostered near Plainfield, IL
Fenced yard required
https://www.collierescue.org/dogs/2051

Sylvia is NOT all collie. But she's a delightful cocktail of Collie, Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, and Cattle Dog. True, she doesn't look quite like what you pictured. BUT what if we told you Sylvia is more collie than she looks, cleverly disguised in a cuddly, 35-pound, perfectly portable, low-coat-maintenance package! With many of the classic Collie qualities that Smooth Collie lovers know to love and adore.
Listen how her foster home describes her: people-oriented, thoughtful, exceptionally intelligent-just like both Smooth and Rough Collies - eager to please, sensitive, devoted… Sounds familiar, right? Stay with me. Sylvia has the soft, affectionate disposition that collie fans crave. She knows how to settle and chill, she chooses to rest on foster dad's foot instead of a doggie bed, whenever possible. She loves to cuddle but is always ready for fun, outdoor adventures, easy-peasy rides in the car. But most of all she enjoys simply being included in everyday life with her family.

Now, she IS still a young dog - under a year old - with a playful curiosity and joyful energy of a puppy, balanced by an impressive ability to settle and connect with her people. She's curious, playful, and energetic. She is a little too much for some dogs, and she has been a little opinionated about doggie friends. Her foster home is working on this with her. So for now, she's considered best as an ONLY dog. She has not been tested with cats, and older kids would be best.

A physical fence will be required because she will need to bond with her new family before she can ever be trusted off leash safely. She's even house-trained and widely trustworthy in the home. She rides great in the car, loves hiking adventures, but also plays nicely with toys all by herself.

Sylvia captures so much of what makes Collies so beloved — especially the classic Collie devotion, gentleness, and companionship that make the breed such a wonderful family dog. With her strong devotion to her humans, Sylvia is soooo close to the perfect dog for many collie folks…look a little deeper and discover what might make her perfect for you. Who knew!

Collie Rescue of Greater IL Inc.'s Adoption Policy
We require anyone interested in adopting a collie to fill out this adoption application. We perform home visits with all adoptions. This makes it difficult for us to adopt dogs outside the Illinois area. Adoption fees are $375 for adult dogs, $475 for puppies under one year, and $175 for dogs eight years and older. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us. Collie Rescue Of Greater Illinois (CRGI) is a local organization that mainly serves the northern portion of Illinois in the rescue and placement of both rough and smooth coated Collies. A small staff of unpaid volunteers supports CRGI in its mission. Because of the absolute need for a home visit for all potential Collie adopters and limited resources to execute this task the placement of Collies outside of our service area is handled on a case by case basis.

Sylvia is from Collie Rescue of Greater IL Inc.
