Suzie - In Foster's Story

Please read about Suzie before applying!!

Breed: Bichon Frise
Age: 7 years
Gender: Spayed Female
Weight: Under 25lbs
Energy Level: Low
Adoption Fee: $295

Am I good with:
Cats: Yes
Dogs: Yes (Meet and greet required)
Children: No

About me: Suzie is a 7 year old Bichon Frise who has spent most of her life being stuck in a cage and used for breeding. But since coming into foster care, Suzie has slowly learned that life can be so much more than that. She has learned what car rides are, what it feels like to have a yard, what it is like to be clean, and how wonderful walks, vacations, camping trips, and really good treats can be. For 7 years she didn't have much of anything and then suddenly she got to experience all of these new things.
Her foster has worked tirelessly with Suzie, understanding that learning to trust people after the life she had isn't something that happens overnight. Suzie is long line trained, which makes it easier to safely bring her back inside when she decides she isn't quite ready to come in, while also allowing her to enjoy camping. Her crate is still her safest place, because it is what she knows and what makes her feel comfortable. She also enjoys the company of other dogs and would most likely be just fine around cats.
Suzie isn't a lap dog, and she isn't the type to seek out much affection. But that doesn't make her any less deserving of a forever home. She needs someone who understands that she may not be the typical cuddly Bichon and who is willing to give her the time, patience, and understanding she deserves. She is also still working on her potty training. With a consistent schedule, more patience, and time to adjust to a new home and new people, we believe she can continue making progress.
Suzie has already come such a long way. She deserves a home where she can continue discovering all the good things life has to offer, at her own pace, with someone who will never give up on her.

This dog has been at ARP since: 5/17/26

-

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to providing the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues, and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for both the approved adopter and the pet.

Please understand that these animals are still new to us, and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get their information updated online as soon as possible.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, The Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and puppies receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter upon proof of sterilization.

The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their veterinarian to complete the plan.
