Super Sal's Story

Meet Sal!
Sal is one special boy looking for a family that understands what an incredible companion he truly is.

This handsome Golden Retriever has a heart of gold and absolutely blossoms once he knows he's safe and loved. If you've earned Sal's trust, you'll be greeted with a happy wagging tail, bright eyes, and a loyal best friend who wants nothing more than to be by your side.

Like many dogs who have experienced uncertainty in their past, Sal appreciates having his personal space respected, especially around new people. The wonderful thing about Sal is that he is an excellent communicator. If he's feeling uncomfortable, he doesn't react without warning. Instead, he'll simply walk away, ask for space, or let you know he's had enough. He's asking for understanding, not confrontation.

Because of this, Sal's ideal family will be happy to advocate for him by allowing him to meet new people at his own pace. Visitors don't need to rush over to pet him—Sal much prefers choosing when he's ready to say hello. When given that choice, his confidence continues to grow, and he forms wonderful relationships with new friends.

One of Sal's greatest joys in life is playing with other dogs! He absolutely loves canine companionship and would thrive in a home with another friendly, playful pup who enjoys romping, wrestling, and having fun together. A confident dog buddy would not only be a wonderful playmate but would also help Sal continue building his confidence.

Sal has also received professional training, giving his future family an incredible head start. Even better, whoever adopts this sweet boy will have the opportunity to meet with Sal's trainer to learn all about him, understand how he communicates, and gain the tools and knowledge to help him become the very best dog he can be. This ongoing support will help set both Sal and his new family up for success.

Throughout his rescue journey, Sal has been handled by many different people, and despite everything he's experienced, he has consistently shown what a good-hearted dog he is. His gentle nature and willingness to communicate make him a wonderful companion for someone who appreciates canine body language and believes in building trust through patience and kindness.

He'll thrive in a calm, loving home where his family will continue building his confidence through positive experiences, treats, toys, playtime, and plenty of encouragement. In return, Sal will reward his family with unwavering loyalty, unconditional love, and a bond that is truly something special.

Sal isn't looking for a perfect family—he's looking for his family. One that will respect his boundaries, celebrate his sweet personality, and give him the love, guidance, and understanding he deserves.

If you're ready to welcome a playful, affectionate, and incredibly loyal best friend into your life, Sal may just be the perfect addition to your family. We know the right home is out there, and when Sal finds it, he's going to shine.

GRCGLARescue adopts within the counties of Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego. Because we do require pre-adoption screening and post-adoption follow-up, we cannot support adoptions outside of this service area.

If you have a current application on file and would like to inquire about this dog, please email adoptions@grcglarescue.org. Otherwise, please make sure to complete the online adopter application found at http://www.grcglarescue.org/adopt before sending your inquiry.

Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue's Adoption Policy
Thank you for your interest and caring to adopt! The first step in the adoption process is to complete the online adoption application (link below). The next step is the in-home visit. GRCGLARescue does require a $25 donation to schedule this visit. This non-refundable donation helps to offset the costs associated with making our dogs ready to meet adopters, including providing veterinary care, boarding, and other needs. After your application is received, one of our volunteers will contact you. It may take 7-10 days to be contacted, as we receive many applications and volunteers are spread across many duties. The volunteer will schedule a home visit with you. Before submitting your application, please know that our current inventory of dogs is low and the level of applications continues at robust levels. Thus, it may take substantially longer to find a dog that matches the dog’s needs and your interests. The application and home visit are held open for 2 years. Please carefully review this eligibility information prior to submitting your adoption application: GRCGLARescue does not adopt dogs to homes with children under 7 years old unless we know that a particular dog has a solid, positive history living successfully with kids of a similar age to those in the potential adopter's home. As a rescue we receive very few dogs that meet this criterion. Finding a dog who is going to be safe with your kids will likely make your adoption process longer. This policy is for the safety and well-being of your families and our dogs. If you're patient and have realistic expectations about adoption, we'll be very happy to work with you. GRCGLARescue adopts within the counties of Los Angeles, Ventura, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego. Because we do require pre-adoption screening and post-adoption follow-up, we cannot support adoptions outside of this service area. If you have any question about whether your city is part of our service area, please email us at info@grcglarescue.org GRCGLARescue cannot adopt dogs into homes where the number of pets currently meets or exceeds the limits set by your local municipal authority (city or county) or your HOA. If you’re not sure about the limits in your area, please contact your city hall, animal control authority and/or HOA to get that information. GRCGLA Rescue cannot adopt dogs to homes that have an invisible/electric fence as a source of containment. GRCGLARescue does not adopt dogs to rental applicants without written proof that the landlord will permit a dog the size of a Golden Retriever in their rental abode. This proof can be a copy of the lease having a clause allowing such a dog, or a separate written document of landlord approval and must be provided to one of our volunteers prior to a home visit being scheduled. Verbal assurances or “contingent” clauses requiring the identification of a specific dog prior to the landlord granting approval are not accepted. Additionally, we will require written proof of any additional pet security deposit required by the landlord being paid. GRCGLARescue does not guarantee that every prospective adopter/applicant will adopt a dog from us. Our goal is to find each of our dogs the best matched home, and we cannot provide any assurance to prospective adopters that we’ll be able to make a placement with them. Unfortunately, most applicants will not get a dog from us. The more flexible you are about your ideal dog the better your chances become. We recognize that you may be working with other rescues, as well as breeders, and visiting animal shelters too. No dogs can be certified as “service” or “comfort” by GRCGLARescue. All dogs are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and vet-checked prior to adoption. Adoption fee (effective April, 2025): Under 1 year $900 1-4 years $800 5-7 years $600 8-9 years $500 10+ years $300 https://www.cognitoforms.com/GRCGLARescue/AdoptionApplication
