Sullivan's Story

Sullivan, or “Sully,” is a 11-month-old male pup who already weighs in at about 96 lbs and still has plenty of growing left to do. True to his age, he’s a big lovable puppy with a playful spirit and lots of energy. He enjoys regular exercise, playtime, and anything that keeps his mind busy. At the end of the day though, he’s just a giant cuddle bug who loves curling up at bedtime — often sleeping upside down without a care in the world. Sully loves toys, although they rarely survive long thanks to his super-chewer skills. He doesn’t try to eat them, he just enjoys the challenge of tearing them apart. He’s still working on his manners on leash and will benefit from continued training as he matures, but he’s already shown he’s a smart boy. He knows how to sit and patiently wait for his food, and won’t start eating until he’s given the go-ahead. He is crate trained, although he’s proven to be a bit of a Houdini and has managed to escape more than once. Sully does have some separation anxiety and prefers not to be left alone for long periods, so he would do best in a home where someone is around often. Sully has been great with a six-year-old child, though like many big puppies he sometimes forgets just how large he is. He also plays well with the resident English bulldog in his current home. At feeding time he can get a little excited and sometimes tries to rush his meals, which has caused him to choke a couple of times. Because of this, slow feeding and a calm routine at mealtime help him do his best. Sully would thrive in an active home that can give him plenty of exercise, structure, and continued training as he grows into his big personality. A secure yard, strong chew toys, and someone who enjoys having a big goofy companion by their side would suit him perfectly. He could do well with respectful kids and other dogs, especially with supervision during feeding time.
