Sugarplum's Story

Hey! I'm Sugarplum, an eight month old female Doberman puppy.

I'll be honest, I've been in rescue for most of my life! My memory isn't too great, but I'll tell y'all what these rescue folks told me! At some point when I was with my litter, my mom either bit me or stepped on me and my head got stuck kinda crooked. I could still get around, but I was real wobbly and it was hard to compete with my siblings for food. They started ganging up on me because I walked funny, so I was taken to a shelter. I was only there for a couple hours before some really nice people came and scooped me right up! I got to spend the holidays in a wonderful foster home, but my problems were just getting started! I wasn't able to keep food down after a couple weeks, so I went to the vet. Turns out I have this thing called mega esophagus that keeps me from swallowing well. I've grown up real strong and healthy though, so I'm able to eat normally so far. As I grew up, my head straightened out a lot too! Now I can mostly walk in a straight line. I've got a few challenges, but I am a spunky little thing with a strong will to live. I like other dogs, people, and have been around cats as well! I can't promise I won't need some extra help in the future, but for now I'm ready for my next adventure! Is that with you?

If you are interested in adoption, apply today at sweethomedobermanrescue.org/adoption!

Sweet Home Doberman Rescue's Adoption Policy
All foster and adoptive homes require calls to personal references, a vet check, and a home visit to insure our dogs are afforded a chance at a healthy, loving rest of their life after an uneasy beginning. Our rescue operates by a BEST MATCH policy. This means we evaluate each applicant's home situation and lifestyle on an individual basis and match the dog we feel would thrive under those circumstances. This may or may not be the dog you are interested in initially, but this gives both you and your new family member the best chances at success. Please keep in mind that Dobermans are sometimes found on banned or restricted breeds lists. Owning one of these dogs may disqualify you from certain insurance, leases, and other policies. Interested adopters are encouraged to research their existing policies and contracts before applying.
