Sugar's Story

Meet Sugar!Sugar is a happy, bouncy, and affectionate Doberman girl with a whole lot of love to give. She’s healthy, active, and full of personality.

Sugar is a social butterfly who genuinely loves people—men, women, kids, neighbors, and even crowded spaces don’t faze her. With polite introductions, she’s curious and friendly, and she recently charmed an entire neighborhood garage sale. Like a true Doberman, she may give a protective bark now and then, but she responds well to redirection and quickly moves on.

She does wonderfully with other dogs and would likely be happiest living with a confident canine companion. Sugar enjoys high-energy, full-contact play with larger dogs and has been improving her manners with smaller dogs. She would thrive in a home where she can share space and companionship with another dog.

At home, Sugar is a fantastic house dog—fully potty trained, crate trained, and respectful of her environment. She enjoys lounging in chairs, raised beds, or her crate (which she happily chooses for naps and bedtime). She eats on a consistent schedule, is used to structured routines, and politely lets you know when she needs to go outside.

Sugar enjoys walks, car rides (she settles in quickly!), and time outdoors, though she does show some interest in squirrels and birds. A “leave it” cue works well, and she’s manageable on leash. A fenced yard is recommended, as her recall is still a work in progress.

She knows several basic commands including sit, down, leave it, and wait (with continued practice), and she’s learning to keep all four paws on the floor when excited. She’s gentle taking treats and loves positive interaction and praise.

And then there are the little things that make Sugar unforgettable: her joyful hop-along dance after she poops, the twirls she does when she sees the leash, and her signature move of walking between your legs just to lean in for a “Doberman hug.”

Sugar is affectionate, playful, and deeply connected to her people. If you’re looking for a loving companion who will be your shadow, your cuddle buddy, and your best friend—Sugar might just be the perfect match.

This fabulous foster is a Doberman Rescue Minnesota foster dog.

Please read all adoption steps and policies carefully on our website. http://dobermanrescueminnesota.com/adoption-steps/

Qualified adopters are within the approved adoption area, and Adopter will be requested to visit this foster dog at the foster family home. Our foster families are generally located within a 250 mile radius of Minneapolis, MN.

All DRM dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, health checked, microchipped, 4DX tested, and on monthly flea/tick and heartworm prevention.
