Suds's Story
Found dumped in various rural fields in Ontario, this good dog was part of the rescue efforts by many to bring them all to safety into their local shelters and then they were transferred to rescue.

Mattie's Place welcomed 15 of the 25 rescued June 21

I have completed Embark DNA testing on a couple of them, hoping to be able to connect to buyers of other puppies from the breeder, and ultimately be able to connect authorities to the dumper.

These dogs were dumped with a horrific case of sarcoptic mange, that they have been inflicted with for a long time, since their skin was inflamed, raw, infected and many are mostly hairless from the mite trauma.

They have all been treated and are no longer contagious. Their foster homes are heroes for seeing these dogs through this very difficult time and giving them a safe place to land.

They have now all been spayed and neutered and are up to date medically and beginning to even grow their fur back!! Though some many never grow a full coat back due to the damage to the hair follicle, but we'll have to see.

They are all eating Carna 4 dog nuggets, which is an exceptional food for healthy skin and coats, so we're giving them the very best chance possible to recover hair growth from the inside out.

None of these dogs have aggression and have very darling personalities, but they are flight risks and have a very nervous energy as they learn to be companions vs. breeding stock for profit. They will flight long before they ever fight.

They all seem very good natured with children and other pets. If they still have love to give after the horrendous horrors they've faced in life, imagine how sweet they could have been, if only they had been treated kindly from the start.

Please stop buying puppies from backyard breeders. Only you can stop the horrific lives these adults and puppies live to line the pockets of breeders.

An adopter willing to work with a professional trainer to help them become more trusting and confident is a preference, unless you bring years of dog experience to the table. An adopter, home most often, so the work can be put in now, to expedite their human/animal bonding experiences and fast track them to be amazing companions. Preference will be given to those with a secured backyard, as the big world outside is a super scary place for them and walks are not yet something that would bring them joy as they still navigate day to day living in a home. All their foster homes have yards and the dogs love spending their time outside, in the calmness that brings them, without the stress of bikes, cars, busses, people, dogs and more on the sidewalks.

All the dogs are now housetrained, but an occasional pee pad use may be required. And for sure, the 1st week post adoption, there will be potty accidents until your new dog can figure out where "outside" is in your home and you both can read one another's signals to potty. Expect accidents. They will happen.

Suds is about 2 years old, with a given date of birth of 6/17/24. She weighs in at 7.70 kg KG / 17 pounds and presumably will stay in that weight range.

She is a very, very sweet girl and just wants to be hanging out with her humans. If you have a heart full of kindness, compassion and patience, this may be the dog you've been searching for.

FROM THE FOSTER:

Suds is a very happy and friendly girl who greets people with tail wags. She has bursts of playfulness and loves playing with her squeak toys. If you play with her and throw the toy, she will chase it down and bring it back to you to continue the game. She also loves wrestling with her co-foster, Sponge especially in the morning after the first outing.

Suds is highly food-motivated and also very eager to please her humans, so her training is coming along well. She is almost completely house trained with very few accidents, and she has quickly learned what she is and not allowed to do in the house. She is very well behaved the only exception being when food is involved. Suds will sneak into restricted areas if she thinks there is food available there.

Suds sleeps in her crate every night and doesn't mind going into it when we are leaving the house but during the day, she prefers to sleep on the couch or one of the dogs beds. She especially loves sleeping in sunbeams. She also loves spending time in the backyard and soaking in the sun on the deck. She likes being in close proximity to her human and will follow her around the house.

Suds gets along well with the other dogs in the house (2 owner dogs and 1 co-foster) and the cats as well. She does occasionally chase the cats when she is excited (in a playful way) and has demonstrated some prey drive chasing squirrels along the fence in the backyard.

Suds currently eats Carna4 food twice daily (7am &6pm) just under 1/2 cup at each feeding. She enjoys treats in between and loves fruit and veggies as well. Suds does display a lot of excitement around food she gobbles her dinner down quickly and has no issues approaching the other dogs to try to take their food as well. To manage this, we keep her crated until all the dogs have finished eating.

With some diligent training and companionship Suds will be a great addition to any family.

---------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leashcollar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.

----------------------------------------

Mattie's Place does not deem any dog in our care hypoallergenic, allergy-free or non-allergenic. Unless you are willing to take daily medication to manage dog allergies, please do not apply to adopt because I can't risk a dog being returned due to allergic reactions.
